The patronal feast of Trecate, blending faith, tradition, and entertainment in Piazza Cavour
The Celebrations in Honor of Patron Saints Cassiano and Clemente represent the most cherished event of the year for Trecate, a town in the Province of Novara overlooking the Ticino river, in the heart of eastern Piedmont. Every September, the community gathers around its two protector saints, San Cassiano and San Clemente, in a festival that unites the spiritual dimension with popular festivities, involving the entire city.
The religious core of the festival is the parish church, where the most solemn liturgical moments take place: the opening of the saints' shrines (scuroli), the festive mass with the presentation of confirmation candidates, the solemn Sunday mass with the participation of the confraternity and the choir, and finally the evocative closing of the shrines. These are ancient rites, passed down from generation to generation, testifying to the deep bond between the people of Trecate and their patron saints.
Alongside the religious celebrations, the festival comes alive with a rich secular program centered in Piazza Cavour. The weekend opens with the Association Festival, a showcase of the vibrant local volunteer scene, and continues with live concerts, musical evenings, entertainment, and bouncy castles for children, complete with the traditional free afternoon snack. The fireworks display is an unmissable highlight, illuminating the Trecate sky. Throughout the weekend, there is no shortage of street food stalls and refreshment points.
The Patronal Feast is also linked to the Patron Saints' Fair, a traditional event dedicated to the local agricultural and artisanal world. Stalls featuring quality products, exhibitions of historical and modern agricultural machinery, traditional local farm animals, and tastings of Piedmontese specialties—such as country-style risotto paired with red wine—wind through the streets of the town center. It is an opportunity to rediscover the rural roots of Trecate and the Novara plains.
Organized by the Municipality of Trecate together with the Pro Loco and numerous local associations, the Celebrations of Saints Cassiano and Clemente are much more than a simple village feast: they are the moment when Trecate rediscovers its identity, its history, and its community spirit. It is a free event open to everyone, capable of attracting visitors from across the Province of Novara and the entire West Ticino region.
The Celebrations in Honor of Patron Saints Cassiano and Clemente return to Trecate from Saturday, September 19 to Monday, September 21, 2026. For three days, the town in the Province of Novara will come alive with its most anticipated event, combining religious devotion with popular festivities in Piazza Cavour.
Following the tradition of previous editions, the program will include the opening of the saints' shrines and solemn masses in the parish church, alongside a rich secular calendar featuring the Association Festival, live concerts, entertainment and bouncy castles for children, street food, and the fireworks display. The Patron Saints' Fair, dedicated to the local agricultural and artisanal world, is also confirmed.
The detailed program, including times, artists, and events, will be published by the Municipality of Trecate closer to the festival dates.
