About WAM Mozart Festival

Every summer, Rovereto and the Vallagarina valley pay tribute to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart—who visited the city in 1760—with the WAM International W.A. Mozart Festival. Established in 1987, the festival brings great Mozartian and Baroque music to the historic courtyards, palaces, and churches of southern Trentino, featuring world-class orchestras, choirs, and soloists. Evening open-air concerts, historically informed performances, and cultural events make this festival one of the most anticipated musical highlights in the province of Trento.

A festival dedicated to Mozart in Rovereto

The WAM International W.A. Mozart Festival is the summer music series that the Municipality of Rovereto and the towns of the Vallagarina valley, in Trentino-Alto Adige, dedicate to the genius from Salzburg. The event is rooted in a specific historical connection: in 1760, a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart stayed in Rovereto and performed a concert at the church of San Marco. Following this, a group of locals launched the festival in 1987, and over the years, it has established itself as one of the most important musical events in the Trentino region.

A journey through courtyards, palaces, and churches

The festival's format highlights the area's historic landmarks: concerts are held in the Courtyard of the Palazzo di Giustizia, in Piazza Malfatti, and the courtyard of Palazzo Alberti in Rovereto, as well as in Riva del Garda (inner courtyard of the Rocca), Villa Lagarina (Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Casa Madernini), and Ala (Palazzo Malfatti). The open-air evenings, set against the evocative backdrop of illuminated courtyards, are a hallmark of the festival.

Early music and historical performance practice

The program features a mix of chamber orchestras, choirs, Baroque ensembles, and soloists, with a special focus on the music of Mozart, his contemporaries, and the Rovereto-born composer Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari. Many concerts are performed by ensembles using period instruments and singers trained in historical performance practice to deliver the repertoire with authentic sonority.

More than just concerts

Alongside the major evening events, the WAM Association enlivens the area with numerous educational and social projects, fostering a dialogue between music and the local community. Each edition revolves around a theme that offers a fresh perspective on the Mozartian universe.

A summer highlight for the Vallagarina valley

Spanning multiple municipalities in the province of Trento, the WAM Festival is much more than a series of concerts: it is a cultural itinerary that connects Rovereto, Riva del Garda, and the villages of the Vallagarina, inviting audiences and enthusiasts to rediscover the musical heritage and historic sites of southern Trentino.

Mozart Festival takes place from August 11th to 25th, 2026, in Rovereto, Riva del Garda, and the Vallagarina valley, featuring a program dedicated to the theme "Mozart and the Voice." The artistic direction is led by musicologist Angela Romagnoli, a professor at the University of Pavia.
