About Walking with the Museum

Walking with the Museum is a summer project in Fiavè, Trentino, designed to guide children and families through local history and traditions via hands-on workshops and experiences. Promoted by the Gruppo Giovani di Fiavè APS in collaboration with the Fiavè Pile Dwelling Museum and the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the project integrates into the town's main events, culminating in an aperitif among the reconstructed pile dwellings of the Parco Archeo Natura, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A project to grow alongside the museum

Now in its third consecutive year in 2026, Walking with the Museum is a summer initiative organized by the Gruppo Giovani di Fiavè APS in partnership with the Fiavè Pile Dwelling Museum and the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento. Aimed primarily at children and families, the project turns the discovery of local heritage into a journey of play and participation, where every young visitor eventually becomes a small ambassador for the history of Fiavè.

How it works

The format centers on workshops and hands-on experiences: practical activities where participants create small objects or products to share, learning while having fun. Rather than being concentrated in a single weekend, the project is spread throughout the summer and tied to the area's main events, allowing culture and tradition to blend with the town's festive atmosphere in an informal and convivial setting.

The Fiavè pile dwellings, a UNESCO Heritage site

The heart of the initiative is the archaeological complex of Fiavè, in the municipality of the same name in the Province of Trento, within the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The Fiavè pile dwellings are part of the prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2011. The Pile Dwelling Museum houses approximately 300 wooden objects—a collection unique in Europe—while the nearby Parco Archeo Natura reconstructs a Bronze Age village across 12,000 square meters, immersed in the atmosphere of the UNESCO Alpi Ledrensi and Judicaria Biosphere Reserve.

The highlight: an aperitif among the pile dwellings

The most evocative event is the aperitif at Parco Archeo Natura: an experience amidst the reconstructions of ancient prehistoric homes, featuring local food tastings, music, and the sunset atmosphere of the mountains. It is a unique way to experience archaeology, suitable for both adults and children.

An event that combines education, nature, and tradition, perfect for a family vacation in western Trentino, nestled between the Chiese Valley, the Giudicarie, and Garda Trentino.

Walking with the Museum — edition 2026

The third edition of Walking with the Museum returns to Fiavè in the summer of 2026 with three events dedicated to children and families, ranging from workshops integrated into local festivities to the aperitif among the pile dwellings of Parco Archeo Natura.

In 2026, the Walking with the Museum project reaches its third consecutive edition, featuring workshops and hands-on experiences curated by the Gruppo Giovani di Fiavè APS in partnership with the Pile Dwelling Museum and the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento. The activities guide children and families through the history of Fiavè and its UNESCO pile dwelling site, with a calendar that intertwines with the town's main events and concludes with the aperitif at Parco Archeo Natura.
