The Pinocchio Walk through the hills of Conzano, in the heart of the Monferrato region
The San Maurizio di Conzano stage is part of the Walking the Monferrato series, an annual calendar of guided walks that winds through the hilltop villages of the Casale Monferrato area from March to November. On Sunday, April 19, 2026, the walk reaches the hamlet of San Maurizio, in the municipality of Conzano, in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of the UNESCO-recognized wine-growing region of Piedmont.
The 2026 edition of this stage is dedicated to Pinocchio, celebrating the bicentenary of Carlo Collodi's birth. The walk ties into the "Artists and Collectors for Pinocchio" exhibition, which will open at Villa Vidua in the following weeks: a thread connecting the trail hike to the village's cultural heritage. Villa Vidua, an 18th-century residence of the Counts Vidua and now an exhibition space, is one of Conzano's jewels, linked to the figure of Carlo Vidua, a great 19th-century traveler.
The route is an 8 km loop that runs mostly along flat, unpaved paths, with a final uphill stretch. The group is accompanied by a qualified nature guide, Anna Maria Bruno, who offers informative stops dedicated to the nature and hilly landscape of the Monferrato. It is an itinerary suitable for those who want to discover the panoramas, vineyards, and views of this corner of the province of Alessandria at a slow pace.
The meeting point is at 2:45 PM in Piazza Banda Lenti, with departure at 3:00 PM. At the start of the route, participants are welcomed by the Mayor of Conzano and the organizers. At the end of the walk, there will be refreshments with drinks and dishes provided by the Le Terre Rosse restaurant. Participation is free and open to all.
Walking the Monferrato is promoted by the municipalities of the Monferrato region in collaboration with local organizations and hosts about twenty-five stages in different villages every year. It is an opportunity to experience the Monferrato in an authentic way, combining outdoor activity with the discovery of the traditions and sites of the Piedmont region.
