About Walking the Monferrato

Walking the Monferrato in Villamiroglio is the autumn stage of the historic series of guided walks that has been enlivening the hills of the Casale Monferrato area since 1993. A free, tourist-level walk along the village trails in the province of Alessandria, discovering woods, farmhouses, country churches, and scenic viewpoints. An opportunity to explore the territory in the company of a qualified guide, with a traditional final refreshment offered to all participants.

A series that tells the story of the Monferrato at a slow pace

Walking the Monferrato is one of the longest-running and most beloved hiking initiatives in the Piedmont region. Established in 1993, the series is promoted by the Monferrato municipalities together with the Sacro Monte di Crea Special Reserve and the CAI of Casale Monferrato, with the historic patronage of the newspaper Il Monferrato. Each year, a dense calendar of stages, distributed between spring and autumn, leads participants along the trails of the Casale Monferrato hills, in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of Piedmont and a landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Villamiroglio stage

The small municipality of Villamiroglio, perched on the hills bordering the province of Turin, hosts one of the most evocative stages of the series. The walk winds along trail no. 710 "Along the roads of the Miroglio", an itinerary that crosses a wooded territory rich in naturalistic, historical, and architectural points of interest. Along the route, you will encounter farmhouses, hamlets, country churches, and locations such as Dovesio, Cascina Ventolina, the church of Santa Liberata, and Monte Croce, with panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

A walk accessible to everyone

The excursion is classified as tourist (T) difficulty and lasts about two and a half hours. It is suitable for anyone with suitable footwear and clothing, and it always takes place in the company of a qualified professional guide who explains the characteristics of the landscape and local heritage. Departure is from the town center, with a meeting in the early afternoon.

Traditions and hospitality

  • Free guided walk open to everyone
  • Welcome by the Municipal Administration of Villamiroglio
  • Traditional final refreshment offered to participants
  • Enhancement of the trails and rural heritage of the Monferrato

The Monferrato, a land of hills and paths

Participating in Walking the Monferrato means discovering the authentic soul of this region: a mosaic of vineyards, woods, villages, and churches that tell centuries of peasant history. The Villamiroglio stage, with its intimate atmosphere and the warmth of local hospitality, is an invitation to experience the most genuine Piedmont, far from the large tourist flows, letting yourself be guided by the slow rhythm of walking.
