Walking the Monferrato... in Occimiano is the local contribution from the Municipality of Occimiano, in the province of Alessandria, to the renowned Piedmontese festival Walking the Monferrato. This series of weekly walks invites hikers and curious visitors to discover the villages and trails of the Lower Monferrato, a hilly landscape now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The San Bernardo Trail

The Occimiano walk follows the San Bernardo Trail, a 7-kilometer loop winding through hills and vineyards. The route takes about two hours to complete and is designed to be accessible to everyone: families, trekking enthusiasts, and casual walkers can enjoy the journey without difficulty while soaking in the sunset light over the Monferrato.

A tradition uniting the Monferrato municipalities

The Walking the Monferrato festival is a collaborative effort between local municipalities, the Sacro Monte di Crea Special Nature Reserve, and the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) sections of Asti and Casale. Each event highlights a different town and its natural and cultural heritage; in Occimiano, the walk becomes a festive community gathering.

The highlight of the event continues after the walk: upon returning to the Villa dei Marchesi Da Passano, the Occimiano Pro Loco treats all participants to a pasta dinner, turning the evening into a convivial meeting point for residents and visitors.
