About Volterra Art Week

Volterra Art Week is a widespread contemporary art exhibition that transforms the historic center of Volterra, in the province of Pisa, into an open-air museum. Organized by Lojelo Art Gallery - La Grande Bellezza ETS in collaboration with Prompt Dsgn, it brings together Italian and international artists in prestigious venues such as the Logge di Palazzo Pretorio and the Sotterranei della Pinacoteca, featuring free-entry exhibitions, performances, installations, talks, and workshops.

Volterra Art Week: contemporary art in the heart of Tuscany

Volterra Art Week is an event dedicated to contemporary art that brings the historic center of Volterraโ€”an ancient Etruscan city in the Province of Pisa, Tuscanyโ€”to life. Launched in 2025 by Lojelo Art Gallery and the La Grande Bellezza ETS association, in collaboration with the Prompt Dsgn studio, the festival aims to bring the general public closer to the language of contemporary art, celebrating freedom of expression beyond any formal or institutional barriers.

A widespread exhibition across the city's iconic landmarks

The format of Volterra Art Week is that of a widespread exhibition: the works are not concentrated in a single venue but are distributed among some of the most evocative and history-rich locations in Volterra's center. The exhibitions thus intertwine contemporary language with the beauty and symbolic value of the city's historic spaces.

  • Logge di Palazzo Pretorio
  • Sala del Giudice Conciliatore, inside the Palazzo dei Priori
  • Via Giusto Turazza exhibition hall
  • Sotterranei della Pinacoteca

Depending on the edition, these spaces are joined by other city center locations such as the Teatro San Pietro, the Lojelo Art Gallery headquarters, and the Prompt Dsgn studio, helping to turn the city into a true open-air museum.

Exhibitions, performances, and meetings

The Volterra Art Week program goes beyond just displaying works. The week offers a calendar packed with events aimed at both enthusiasts and industry professionals:

  • collective exhibitions featuring Italian and international artists;
  • live performances and art installations;
  • workshops and creative labs;
  • talks, conferences, and round-table discussions on contemporary art and the art market;
  • interviews with guest artists and opportunities for public engagement.

An event supported by the local community

The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Volterra and with the support of the Tuscany Region, alongside the collaboration of local entities and businesses. Admission to the exhibition spaces is generally free, with continuous opening hours, to encourage the widest possible participation from residents and visitors. Volterra Art Week thus establishes itself as a highlight of the summer cultural calendar in the Valdicecina, enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of one of Tuscany's most fascinating art cities.
