A week of contemporary art in the historic center of Volterra
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Volterra Art Week is an event dedicated to contemporary art that brings the historic center of Volterraโan ancient Etruscan city in the Province of Pisa, Tuscanyโto life. Launched in 2025 by Lojelo Art Gallery and the La Grande Bellezza ETS association, in collaboration with the Prompt Dsgn studio, the festival aims to bring the general public closer to the language of contemporary art, celebrating freedom of expression beyond any formal or institutional barriers.
The format of Volterra Art Week is that of a widespread exhibition: the works are not concentrated in a single venue but are distributed among some of the most evocative and history-rich locations in Volterra's center. The exhibitions thus intertwine contemporary language with the beauty and symbolic value of the city's historic spaces.
Depending on the edition, these spaces are joined by other city center locations such as the Teatro San Pietro, the Lojelo Art Gallery headquarters, and the Prompt Dsgn studio, helping to turn the city into a true open-air museum.
The Volterra Art Week program goes beyond just displaying works. The week offers a calendar packed with events aimed at both enthusiasts and industry professionals:
The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Volterra and with the support of the Tuscany Region, alongside the collaboration of local entities and businesses. Admission to the exhibition spaces is generally free, with continuous opening hours, to encourage the widest possible participation from residents and visitors. Volterra Art Week thus establishes itself as a highlight of the summer cultural calendar in the Valdicecina, enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of one of Tuscany's most fascinating art cities.
The second edition of Volterra Art Week is confirmed for 2026 by the organizers, Lojelo Art Gallery - La Grande Bellezza ETS, who have opened registration for artists. At the moment, precise dates and the detailed program have not yet been published: it is expected that the event will take place, as it did for the first edition, between late August and early September, returning to enliven the historic sites of Volterra's center with exhibitions, performances, talks, and workshops. The program will be updated as soon as it is available on official channels.
Volterra Art Week takes place in the historic center of Volterra (PI), with exhibition venues including the Logge di Palazzo Pretorio, the Sala del Giudice Conciliatore (Palazzo dei Priori), the Via Giusto Turazza hall, and the Sotterranei della Pinacoteca.
Admission to the exhibition spaces is generally free. It is recommended to check the updated schedule and program on the organization's official channels.
Volterra can be reached by car via the SS68 Val di Cecina road. The city is not directly served by the main railway network: the nearest stations are Cecina and Pontedera-Casciana Terme, which are connected to Volterra by bus services.
