The Radda stop of the international Chianti choral singing festival, held in the evocative Propositura di San Niccolò
Every spring, the "Vocal Itineraries in the Florentine and Sienese Chianti" International Choral Festival stops in Radda in Chianti, in the Province of Siena, bringing an evening dedicated to voices and ensemble music to the village. The concert is held in the Propositura di San Niccolò, the town's main church, which stands in an elevated position opposite the Palazzo del Podestà and is reached by a staircase rising from Piazza Ferrucci. Its intimate acoustics and the atmosphere of the medieval historic center make this event one of the most evocative moments of the entire festival.
The event is coordinated by the Association for the Coordination of Choirs of the Florentine and Sienese Chianti, which brings together the historic choirs of the area and organizes a calendar spread across several municipalities in the Provinces of Siena and Florence, in Tuscany. Created to combine the promotion of choral singing with the discovery of Chianti's heritage, the festival transforms Romanesque parish churches, country churches, and historic sites into natural stages for Italian and foreign vocal ensembles. In over twenty years of activity, it has hosted hundreds of choral groups, many of which come from abroad.
In Radda in Chianti, the concert is hosted by the Corale San Niccolò di Radda, the ensemble that lends its name to the evening and welcomes choirs from other Italian cities and European countries. The program alternates between pieces of sacred polyphony, contemporary choral works, folk harmonies, and multi-voice choral moments, creating an encounter between different traditions and vocal styles. The church hosting the concert also houses a valuable pipe organ built by the Tronci brothers in 1854, a testament to the local long-standing musical tradition.
The Radda stop is not just a musical event, but an opportunity to rediscover the village and the hilly landscape of the Sienese Chianti. Recent editions of the festival have chosen strong themes, such as the "Concerts for Peace", with a piece dedicated to peace between peoples included in every concert. For those visiting Chianti in the spring, attending one of the stops of the Vocal Itineraries means combining the experience of the territory with the intimate and powerful one of live choral music, always with free admission.
The Radda stop of the 24th edition of the festival was held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 9:00 PM in the Propositura di San Niccolò in Radda in Chianti, as part of the "Concerts for Peace" program. The evening, with free admission, featured the Corale San Niccolò di Radda, conducted by Daniele Dori, together with two guest choirs: the Coro Col Plaid from Siena, conducted by Valentina Guarneri, and the Ensemble Vocale Ab Antiquo Visincanto from Bolzano, conducted by Consuelo Serraino. As with all stops of the festival, each concert included a piece dedicated to peace between peoples.
