About Vivifiume Ombrone

Vivifiume Ombrone is an outdoor gathering held every spring in Paganico, in the municipality of Civitella Paganico (Grosseto), attracting lovers of open-air sports. Rafting, canoeing, SUP, trekking, and mountain biking offer a direct and mindful way to explore the Ombrone River and the Maremma region. Organized by UISP Grosseto and the Terramare association with municipal support, the event combines physical activity, environmental awareness, and social connection, culminating in a convivial dinner. It is an event open to everyone, from experts to those curious about slow tourism.

Vivifiume Ombrone: sport that tells the story of the river

Every spring, the Ombrone River takes center stage for a day entirely dedicated to outdoor sports and nature discovery. Vivifiume Ombrone takes place in Paganico, a village in the municipality of Civitella Paganico, in the heart of the Maremma region in the province of Grosseto. Each year, it brings together over a hundred outdoor enthusiasts along the waters and trails of this corner of Tuscany.

Founded in 2015 as a pioneering initiative by the UISP committee of Grosseto, the event has grown into a staple for those who love to experience the river environment actively. The headquarters is the Casa del Fiume di Paganico, which serves as the meeting point, start, and finish line for all activities.

Water, earth, and pedals: the disciplines

The beauty of Vivifiume lies in the freedom to choose how to experience the river and the surrounding territory. The offerings span several disciplines, each led by qualified associations and instructors:

  • River navigation — rafting, canoeing, and SUP along a scenic 15 km stretch of the Ombrone, from the Monte Antico bridge to Paganico, winding through curves and natural vistas.
  • Trekking — a 14 km loop trail, managed by the Terramare association, which climbs from Paganico toward Civitella Marittima and the Poggio al Riccio viewpoint, immersed in the Maremma woods.
  • Mountain biking and gravel — a more challenging 41 km route covering gravel roads and single tracks, with visits to scenic spots and local villages.

Water activities require personal equipment and mandatory safety gear (helmet and life jacket), while guided rafting is limited to a specific number of participants and requires booking.

More than just sport: environment and community

Vivifiume is not just a sporting event; it is an invitation to experience the Ombrone in a direct and conscious way. The common thread is environmental appreciation: getting to know the river means learning to respect and protect it. Over the years, the event has fostered collaborations with local entities such as the Pro Loco of Paganico, the Consorzio di Bonifica 6 Toscana Sud, and various local sports associations.

The day concludes with a convivial dinner, a moment of gathering that brings together participants, volunteers, and organizers. It is the perfect occasion to share the day's emotions and strengthen the sense of community that is an integral part of the Vivifiume spirit.

A slow tourism experience in the Maremma

Civitella Paganico, with its landscapes of hills, woods, and waterways, is an ideal destination for slow and outdoor tourism. Vivifiume Ombrone is the perfect gateway to discover this territory: a day that bridges sport, nature, and the culture of the Grosseto Maremma, far from the more crowded tourist circuits of Tuscany.

Vivifiume Ombrone — edition 2026

The eleventh edition of Vivifiume Ombrone took place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Paganico, concentrating all activities into a single day for the first time. Over a hundred enthusiasts enlivened the Ombrone River and the Maremma trails with rafting, canoeing, trekking, and mountain biking, closing with the traditional convivial dinner.

The 2026 edition of Vivifiume Ombrone, the eleventh of the event, took place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Paganico, in the municipality of Civitella Paganico. For the first time, the organizers chose to concentrate all activities into a single day, simplifying operations and making the experience even more accessible for participants.

About a hundred outdoor enthusiasts took part in the various disciplines: around fifty in rafting and canoeing on a stretch of the Ombrone River, about thirty hikers along the forest trekking loop, and a group of cyclists on the mountain bike and gravel route. The day ended with the traditional convivial dinner. A success that confirms the territory's vocation for slow and outdoor tourism, as highlighted by local institutions.
