The summer festival in the Madonie village featuring music, theatre, local flavours, and traditions
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Vivere Bolognetta in August is the summer festival of the Municipality of Bolognetta, a small village in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily, located about thirty kilometres from the regional capital. Launched in 2024, the event has grown rapidly to become one of the most anticipated highlights of the local summer: for five consecutive evenings, the squares and streets of the historic centre host live music, theatre, poetry, dancing, tastings, and entertainment for all ages.
The strength of the festival lies in its variety: the same evening might alternate between a singer-songwriter concert in Piazza Caduti in Guerra, a poetry reading in Piazza Palma De Gandia, and an open-air burraco tournament. The calendar embraces diverse genres and audiences — from Sicilian singer-songwriters to dialect theatre, from cabaret to recreational activities for children — while keeping admission completely free.
The highlight is the Sunday White Night, titled "Tradition, Taste, and Culture": a day that begins in the morning with olive oil tourism and rural aperitifs, continuing until late at night with street performers, flag-wavers, magic shows, fire dancing, and dancing in Piazza Matrice. It is the occasion when Bolognetta showcases its heritage: olive oil, seasoned bread, the Museum of Peasant Life, and the religious traditions linked to the cult of Saint Anthony of Padua.
The event is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Bolognetta with the support of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, the Sicilian Region, the GAL Metropoli Est, and in collaboration with the cultural association Facitur. The stated goal is to enhance the village, its food and wine excellence, and its traditions, while involving residents and visitors in a summer of socialising and widespread culture.
The 2026 edition of Vivere Bolognetta in August has not yet been officially announced: the dates and detailed programme will be communicated by the Municipality of Bolognetta in the weeks leading up to the event. Based on previous editions, the festival is traditionally held in the first half of August and includes a week of concerts, theatre, poetry readings, street dancing, food and wine tastings, children's shows, and the spectacular White Night. As soon as they are available, updates will be published on the official channels of the Municipality of Bolognetta.
The events take place in the historic centre of Bolognetta (Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily), mainly in Piazza Caduti in Guerra, Piazza Palma De Gandia, Piazza Matrice, and along the main street.
Bolognetta is about 30 km from Palermo. By car, it can be reached from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (exit for the SS121) or along the state road connecting the capital to the hinterland. The nearest train station is in Palermo.
All festival events are completely free of charge.
For the updated programme, it is recommended to check the channels of the Municipality of Bolognetta and the local press.
