Spit-roasted veal and rock music in the heart of the Monti Dauni
In the heart of the Monti Dauni, the small village of Roseto Valfortore, located in the province of Foggia and part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy circuit, hosts the Vitello Rock Festival every summer. The event blends two of the town's souls into one: the great gastronomic tradition of Daunian cuisine and a passion for live music, brought together over two festive evenings in the historic center.
The heart of the festival is an authentic and unmistakable specialty: whole spit-roasted veal, turned slowly for at least ten hours to ensure tender meat and a truly unique flavor. It is an ancient ritual that requires patience and mastery, captivating visitors every year. Surrounding this main dish is a selection of street food and typical Monti Dauni products, from honey to truffles, showcasing the food and wine richness of this corner of Puglia.
What makes this festival unique is its pairing with the Roseto Rock Festival: in the amphitheater set up in the heart of the historic center, local and Capitanata-based artists and bands take the stage, enlivening the evenings with live concerts. The combination of great food and the rhythm of rock creates an engaging atmosphere that draws families, young people, and tourists late into the night.
Roseto Valfortore, with its narrow stone streets, fountains, and houses overlooking the Fortore valley, provides a picturesque backdrop for the event. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Roseto Valfortore together with the Pro Loco and is part of the rich summer calendar of Roseto, filled with festivals, popular feasts, trekking, and cultural events that bring the village to life throughout the season.
The Vitello Rock Festival is one of the best opportunities to experience the hospitality and flavors of the Monti Dauni in a festive atmosphere that unites gastronomy, music, and community.
The 13th edition of the Vitello Rock Festival takes place on July 11 and 12, 2026, in Roseto Valfortore, in the heart of the Monti Dauni. The evenings are punctuated by the Roseto Rock Festival, with live concerts by local and regional artists and bands performing in the amphitheater set up among the stone houses. The event, organized by the Municipality with the Pro Loco, offers free admission and is suitable for the whole family.
