The major Milanese event for real cinema, between Teatro Litta and virtual reality
Visioni dal Mondo is the international documentary film festival that brings the best of real cinema to Milan every year. Created to give space and dignity to documentaries, the festival has established itself as one of the most important events of its kind in Italy, capable of intertwining major social, political, and environmental themes with the narrative power of true stories.
The festival takes place in two symbolic venues in Milan: the Teatro Litta, on Corso Magenta, the heart of the screenings, and the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, which hosts the section dedicated to virtual reality works. A combination that unites the tradition of the big screen with the most innovative frontiers of the documentary language.
The festival structure includes several competitive sections: the Italian Contest for independent Italian productions (feature films and short films by new talents), the International Contest for foreign documentaries, the Visioni VR Contest in collaboration with the Leonardo da Vinci Museum, and Visioni Incontra, the industry section dedicated to documentary projects seeking funding and co-productions.
Founded and directed by Francesco Bizzarri, with artistic direction by Maurizio Nichetti, Visioni dal Mondo combines quality selection with the ability to interpret the present. Each edition revolves around a theme, giving meaning and coherence to the programming and inviting the public to look at the world from new perspectives. An event that confirms Milan as the capital of documentary filmmaking in Italy.
The 2026 edition of Visioni dal Mondo, the twelfth, runs from September 16 to 20, centered around the theme "Beyond the Border". According to director Francesco Bizzarri, the theme reflects the urgency to overcome divisions through documentary stories, capable of amplifying forgotten voices and opening new perspectives.
The festival is structured into the usual sections: Italian Contest, International Contest, Visioni VR Contest (in collaboration with the Leonardo da Vinci Museum), and Visioni Incontra for the industry. Screenings are held at Teatro Litta, while the VR section is hosted at the Science Museum.
