Forty years of queer cinema in Milan, between screen and culture
The MiX Festival Internazionale di Cinema LGBTQ+ e Cultura Queer reaches its fortieth edition in 2026, scheduled from September 17 to 20 in Milan (Municipality of Milan, Lombardy). It is one of the longest-running queer film festivals in Europe, founded in 1986, and for decades a point of reference for the LGBTQ+ community and lovers of auteur cinema.
The fortieth-anniversary edition takes place between the Piccolo Teatro Strehler and the Casa di Quartiere Garibaldi, two symbolic cultural venues of the city. Four days where screenings intertwine with music, film masterclasses, meetings, and special events.
The 2026 festival revolves around the question 'What's Next?': an invitation to imagine the future of identities, artistic languages, representations, and struggles. Accompanying the historic edition is also a new official theme song, Louder Than Shame by the electronic project GoldQueer.
The festival previewed the content of the fortieth edition on May 15 at Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan, with the exclusive screening of Lo Sguardo Misterioso del Fenicottero by Spanish director Diego Cรฉspedes, winner of the Un Certain Regard award at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. A preview that confirms MiX's international and discovery-oriented vocation, always attentive to new voices in world queer cinema.
