A delicious and convivial march connecting the villages of the Vanoi Valley
The Village Relay Race is a non-competitive, recreational walking event open to all, organized by US Vanoi in the heart of the Vanoi Valley, in the municipality of Canal San Bovo, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Speed and performance don't matter here: the goal is to walk together, have fun, socialize, and rediscover the small, authentic villages that dot one of the most secluded and genuine valleys in Trentino.
Teams set off in the morning from the Canal San Bovo Festival Tent and hike from village to village, with gourmet stops marking the entire route. The trail passes through the valley's villages in sequence:
Each stop is managed by local committees and volunteers who welcome walkers with local specialties and products: the march thus becomes a journey through taste as well as the landscape.
The relay is surrounded by a rich entertainment program at the Festival Tent. From the morning, traditional games get underway โ such as tresette, briscola, snakes and ladders, and checkers โ alongside workshops by the Vanoi Ecomuseum and activities hosted by the Italian Red Cross. In the afternoon, there is musical entertainment, with folk music accompanying the convivial part of the day. For more agile teams, a Mini Relay is also held along the streets of Canal San Bovo.
The event, now in its early editions, is an expression of the Vanoi Valley's community spirit: a way to showcase the villages, promote the trails and roads that connect them, and strengthen bonds between the hamlets. The initiative is also supported by the ApT San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle, Primiero e Vanoi and is part of the calendar of events that bring eastern Trentino to life, blending mountains, tradition, and hospitality.
The fourth edition of the Village Relay Race was held on Saturday, May 3, 2026, with a meeting point at 7:30 AM at the Canal San Bovo Festival Tent. The non-competitive recreational march followed the well-established route from village to village: Caoria (breakfast), Giaroni (tea and biscuits), Ronco Chiesa (marendol), APSP Vanoi (refreshments), Prade, Cicona, Zortea (appetizers), and Gobbera (pizza aperitif), before arriving in Canal San Bovo for the final lunch for everyone.
From 10:00 AM, the Festival Tent hosted traditional games (tresette, briscola, snakes and ladders, and checkers), workshops by the Vanoi Ecomuseum and the Italian Red Cross; in the afternoon, there was musical entertainment. The Relay (teams of 6, โฌ70) and Mini Relay (teams of 4, โฌ40) formats were confirmed, with gadgets, refreshments, and lunch included.
Canal San Bovo can be reached by car from Valsugana or Primiero; the Vanoi Valley is served by the SP79 road. The nearest train stations are Feltre or Borgo Valsugana, from where you can continue by bus or car.
Participation is by team: Relay โฌ70 per team of 6 people, Mini Relay โฌ40 per team of 4 people. The fee includes gadgets, refreshments along the route, and the final lunch. Registration is available at the Lausen Gym in the days leading up to the event.
