A masked celebration in the heart of Vallagarina
Every year, in the first half of February, the historic center of Villa Lagarina, an elegant village in the Vallagarina valley in the province of Trento, dresses up for its Carnival. This free, open-to-all event is one of the most cherished traditions for the local community, attracting families and visitors from across the Adige Valley.
The Carnival is born from the collaboration between the Villa Lagarina Pro Loco, the Alpini Group, the Destra Adige Lagarina pastoral community, the Municipality of Villa Lagarina, and the Family District. This spirit of volunteerism gives the day its authentic and convivial character, far from large tourist-focused carnivals and closer to the popular traditions of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The festivities kick off at noon with the opening of the food stalls, the true stars of the day. Among the specialties served by the Alpini are maccheroni al ragù, french fries, fortaie, cotton candy, crostoli (also available in lactose-free and gluten-free versions), and the classic Alpini bar.
The Villa Lagarina Carnival is part of the broader Carnevale in Vallagarina circuit, a rich calendar of masked festivals that, between late January and spring, involves dozens of villages in the valley. Each municipality offers its own traditional dishes (maccheroni, gnocchi, bigoi with sardines) accompanied by parades, confetti, and cheer, in a mosaic of events promoted by the Rovereto and Vallagarina Tourist Board.
With its games, colorful masks, and village atmosphere, the Villa Lagarina Carnival is designed primarily for families and children. A simple and genuine day that celebrates the Trentino carnival tradition and the sense of community in this Vallagarina village.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the historic center of Villa Lagarina hosted its Carnival. From 11:30 AM, food stalls opened with Alpini-style maccheroni al ragù, french fries, fortaie, cotton candy, crostoli (also lactose and gluten-free), and the Alpini bar, alongside games and entertainment for children. At 2:00 PM, the costume parade took place, and at 4:30 PM, the Alpini lottery was drawn. The event, organized by the Pro Loco, Alpini Group, Destra Adige Lagarina pastoral community, the Municipality of Villa Lagarina, and the Family District, was part of the 2026 Carnevale in Vallagarina circuit.
