A charity food and wine walk on the Vigolana Plateau
Vigolana Camina e Magna is one of the most beloved events on the Vigolana Plateau, located in the heart of the Autonomous Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Established in 2006, this food and wine walk returns every May, attracting hundreds of families, hikers, and food enthusiasts drawn by its unique blend of gentle sport, alpine scenery, and local cuisine.
The concept is simple and successful: a 12-kilometre loop trail winding through farm roads and nature trails at the foot of the Vigolana mountain range. The route is easy and designed for everyone, from children to seniors, with sections accessible even with a stroller.
The true highlight of the day is the series of gastronomic stops along the route. At each station, hikers can pause to sample traditional local dishes and products, ranging from breakfast with coffee and krapfen to hot mountain-style meals. Recent editions have featured specialties such as spätzle, smacafam, gulasch, and local desserts, paired with apple juice and aperitifs prepared by local farms and producers.
Vigolana Camina e Magna is more than just a food festival: it is organised by the Solidarietà Vigolana ODV association, and all proceeds are donated to charity. Over the years, the event has supported international cooperation projects and local solidarity initiatives for families in need, turning a simple walk into a concrete gesture of support.
The event is the perfect opportunity to explore the Vigolana Plateau, a scattered municipality just a few kilometres from Trento that includes the villages of Vigolo Vattaro, Bosentino, Centa San Nicolò, and Vattaro. Surrounded by meadows, forests, and the imposing mass of the Vigolana, the area offers an authentic alpine setting where gastronomic tradition and hospitality come together for a day of conviviality.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the eighteenth edition of Vigolana Camina e Magna took place, starting from the Vigolo Vattaro Sports Centre (Loc. Caolorine) from 9:00 AM, with groups departing every 30 minutes until the route closed at 6:00 PM.
The 12-kilometre route, immersed in the nature of the Vigolana Plateau, featured 9 refreshment points with traditional Trentino dishes and products, in an itinerary suitable for all ages. There were also plenty of moments and activities dedicated to children.
Registration was limited, with fees of €26 for adults, €16 for children up to 12 years old, and a family ticket at €75 (2 adults + 2 children). All proceeds from the 2026 edition, managed by Solidarietà Vigolana ODV, were donated to cooperation projects in Nepal and local solidarity programs for families in need.
The Vigolana Plateau can be reached from Trento in about 20 minutes by car, driving towards Vigolo Vattaro. By train, the reference station is Trento, which is connected by bus services. The start is at the Vigolo Vattaro Sports Centre (Loc. Caolorine).
Participation requires registration, with limited spots and early booking closure. In recent editions, fees were approximately €25-26 for adults, €15-16 for children up to 12, with discounted family tickets available. Registration can be completed online via the association's website or at designated local points.
Comfortable clothing, hiking shoes, and a healthy appetite are recommended. The route is also suitable for families with children.
