Vignale in Danza is the International Dance Festival that brings Vignale Monferrato, a small town in the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont, to life every summer, nestled in the UNESCO World Heritage hills of Monferrato. Founded in 1978, it is one of Italy's longest-running dance events. It has grown to exceed seven thousand attendees in its 2025 edition while remaining true to its vocation: bringing great dance to an intimate and evocative village setting.
The stage of the Giardini Alti at Palazzo Callori
The heart of the festival is the Giardini Alti of Palazzo Callori, a historic residence overlooking the Monferrato hills. Here, under the stars, evening performances by guest companies take place. The 2026 edition kicks off on June 25 at 9:30 PM with "Bus stop" by the Twain Centro Produzione Danza, continuing until July 5, with further events scheduled for late August and November.
Companies, stars, and international competition
The program alternates titles from the classical repertoire—such as "The Sleeping Beauty" by the Nuovo Balletto Classico of Reggio Emilia and "Coppelia"—with contemporary creations, including "Volume" by the Kataklò Athletic Dance Theatre. The festival also hosts the International Competition (June 27-28), divided into classical, neoclassical, character, folk, hip-hop, and contemporary-modern categories, with a prestigious jury including La Scala star Liliana Così.

A festival spread across the territory
Alongside the performances in Vignale Monferrato, the "Aspettando Vignale in Danza" (Waiting for Vignale in Danza) section and the "Vignale on the road" and "Vignale in Danza in tour" projects bring dance to the streets and squares of towns such as Alessandria, Montecastello, Mirabello Monferrato, and Quargnento, starting June 13. Among the new features is the "Emotions in verse and dance" event, which combines a guided tour of Palazzo Callori with poetry readings and dance performances. Artistically directed by Michela Maggiolo, the festival is organized by the Associazione Culturale Stabilimento delle Arti with the Municipality of Vignale Monferrato and the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria.
