Early and Baroque music and narrative concerts in the historic churches and palaces of Alessandria and its province
The International Festival "Alessandria Barocca e non solo..." is one of the most established early music festivals in south-eastern Piedmont. Created to showcase the region's historical and musical heritage, it guides the audience each year on a journey that intertwines the Baroque repertoire, chamber music, and so-called narrative concerts, where live performance engages in dialogue with storytelling, poetry, and art history.
At the heart of the Festival is the resident ensemble L'Archicembalo, a group specializing in the interpretation of early repertoire, joined each year by internationally acclaimed guest soloists and ensembles. The artistic direction is led by Daniela Demicheli, while the organization is managed by the Pantheon ETS Association.
The festival has a widespread vocation: concerts are not held in a single hall but span the Municipality of Alessandria and numerous towns in the Province. Frequent venues include the Church of San Giacomo della Vittoria–Santuario dell'Addolorata, the Michele Pittaluga Auditorium of the "A. Vivaldi" Conservatory, and the Palatium Vetus in Alessandria, as well as historic churches and palaces in Tortona, Casale Monferrato, Valmadonna, Spinetta Marengo, Litta Parodi, Salabue di Ponzano Monferrato, San Sebastiano Curone, and Oviglio. Many of these buildings are usually excluded from traditional concert circuits: the Festival thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover the architectural heritage of the Alessandria area.
The program alternates famous pages of the European Baroque with rarer offerings and narrative concerts, where music is linked to a literary or historical theme. Over the years, the festival has dedicated evenings to Vivaldi and his Four Seasons, to Dante, to Saint Francis, and to great composers of the repertoire, always with particular attention to interpretative quality and the philological choice of instruments.
One of the hallmarks of "Alessandria Barocca e non solo..." is the desire to make high culture accessible to everyone: all events are free to attend, with no reservation required. It is a precious opportunity for those visiting Alessandria and Monferrato to combine the discovery of the territory with the experience of high-level live music in fascinating settings.
The seventeenth edition of the Festival, promoted by the Pantheon ETS Association under the artistic direction of Daniela Demicheli, offers 13 concerts distributed between June and November 2026. The program ranges from early and Baroque music to chamber repertoire, with the characteristic narrative concerts that combine music and storytelling. The resident ensemble L'Archicembalo takes center stage, joined by soloists and guest ensembles. The events span Alessandria, Tortona, and numerous towns in the province, in churches, sanctuaries, auditoriums, and historic palaces. Admission to all concerts is free.
