Vertical races at the foot of Mont Blanc
In Courmayeur, in the Aosta Valley, the Vertical Trail Courmayeur Mont Blanc celebrates one of the most extreme disciplines of mountain running: the vertical race. These are races with limited development but very high altitude gain, in which athletes tackle thousands of meters of ascent in the shortest possible time, immersed in the panoramas of the Mont Blanc massif.
The program offers two main events:
The finish line is located at high altitude, near the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car stations, in an absolutely prestigious setting.
With a limited number of participants, the Vertical Trail Courmayeur is designed for uphill running specialists, but it is also a spectacle for the public who witness the challenge at the foot of Mont Blanc. The 2026 edition celebrates the tenth anniversary of the event, which has become a firm fixture in Courmayeur's sporting summer, in the province of Aosta.
On July 24 and 25, 2026, the Vertical Trail Courmayeur Mont Blanc celebrates its tenth anniversary. Scheduled are the VK1 and the VK2 – Vertical K2000, the flagship event with about 2000 meters of positive altitude gain. The races, with limited entry, start from the center of Courmayeur with an arrival at high altitude near the Skyway Monte Bianco facilities.
