The Pentecost concert by the Vereinskapelle Gossensaß band in Colle Isarco
Every spring, for Pentecost, the Vereinskapelle Gossensaß invites the public to its Pfingstkonzert, a traditional concert that stands as one of the most anticipated musical events of the year in Gossensaß (known in Italian as Colle Isarco), a village in the municipality of Brennero, in the Upper Isarco Valley. The evening takes place under the pavilion of the village's covered festival square (Festplatz) and attracts locals, brass music enthusiasts, and visitors from the surrounding valleys.
Brass music in Gossensaß has roots dating back to the mid-19th century: in June 2013, the band celebrated 160 years of Blasmusik in the village, a testament to an uninterrupted tradition dating back to around 1853. Over the decades, the Vereinskapelle Gossensaß has become a cornerstone of the community's identity, present at religious ceremonies, village festivals, and the typical parades of the South Tyrolean band world. The band is a member of the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen (VSM), the federation of South Tyrolean brass bands.
The Pfingstkonzert is designed as a varied and balanced musical journey, alternating between classical pieces, concert marches, and lighter works. The evening opens with a performance by the Jugendkapelle Brennerwind, the youth band formed in 2012 by young musicians from Gossensaß and Fleres (Pflersch), which performs several lively pieces before handing the stage over to the main band.
More than just a concert, the Pfingstkonzert is a shared celebration: the band in traditional uniforms, the youth of Brennerwind, and families gathered under the festival square pavilion reflect the identity of a mountain region where brass music is a vibrant part of popular culture. The event is part of the Municipality of Brennero calendar, in the Trentino-Alto Adige Region, and highlights the cultural vocation of the Upper Isarco Valley, just a stone's throw from the border and the famous Brenner Pass.
The 2026 edition took place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 8:15 PM under the pavilion of the covered festival square in Gossensaß, in the municipality of Brennero. Following the departure of conductor Klaus Sailer, who led the Vereinskapelle Gossensaß for over ten years, the band approached the concert as a "Projekt ohne Kapellmeister," a project carried out without a permanent conductor.
The evening was opened by the Jugendkapelle Brennerwind with several lively pieces. The band's program ranged from the Susato Suite to Bellini's Norma, passing through concert marches like the Boccaccio-Marsch, and film scores such as Les Misérables, Mission Impossible, and The Mask of Zorro, closing with Roy – Overture for Band by Jacob de Haan.
Gossensaß (Colle Isarco) is located along the Isarco Valley, in the municipality of Brennero, easily accessible from the A22 Brenner motorway (Vipiteno-Val di Vizze exit) and the SS12 state road. The Colle Isarco train station is served by regional trains on the Brenner line.
The concert usually takes place in the evening, under the covered festival square pavilion in Gossensaß. Admission is traditionally by voluntary donation. For updated times and details, it is recommended to check the Vereinskapelle Gossensaß website.
Gossensaß and nearby Vipiteno (Sterzing) offer numerous accommodations, which are also ideal for exploring the mountains of the Upper Isarco Valley.
