About Alpine Advent at Fane Alm

On Advent Sundays, Fane Alm—the most picturesque alpine village in South Tyrol—transforms into a charming Christmas hamlet amidst snow, music, and tradition. At an altitude of 1,739 meters above Valles in the municipality of Rio di Pusteria, among wooden huts, barns, and a small chapel, Almenadvent offers mulled wine, South Tyrolean specialties, artisanal crafts, mountain choirs, and brass bands. An intimate and authentic experience, far from the bustle of large markets, accessible only on foot along the Milk Trail.

Alpine Advent at Fane Alm

Fane Alm, located at 1,739 meters in the Valler Tal at the foot of the Fundres Mountains, is considered the most beautiful alpine village in South Tyrol: a collection of wooden huts, barns, a small chapel, and a few mountain inns, nestled in the silence of the mountains above Valles, a hamlet in the municipality of Rio di Pusteria (Mühlbach), in the province of Bolzano. On Advent Sundays, this fairytale setting dresses up for the holidays to host Almenadvent, the Alpine Advent: an intimate and authentic market, quite different from large city events.

A Christmas village amidst snow and tradition

Between the soft glow of the huts and the scent of wood, visitors will find mulled wine, hot tea, sweets, and South Tyrolean gastronomic specialties, alongside artisanal products offered at the stalls. The atmosphere is that of a cozy and genuine mountain winter, where snow and the alpine landscape frame a celebration with an ancient flavor. Visitors can stop at the mountain huts, such as the Zingerle Hütte, to enjoy traditional local dishes.

Music, choirs, and events

Each Advent Sunday offers a different program, featuring mountain choirs and local brass bands. Highlights include the blessing at the mountain pasture on the first Sunday, the eagerly awaited visit from Saint Nicholas for the little ones, and musical performances by choral groups and wind ensembles from the surrounding valleys. For children, there are animated readings, creative workshops, and a special mailbox for letters to the Christkind, making the day perfect for the whole family.

How to experience it

Fane Alm can be reached only on foot: from the Berg am Boden parking lot in Valles, it is a pleasant walk of about an hour and a half along the Milk Trail, immersed in the woods and the snowy silence. This choice to leave the car in the valley makes Almenadvent a slow and mindful experience, where the journey itself is part of the celebration. The event is organized as part of the Gitschberg Jochtal / Rio Pusteria holiday area and represents one of the most original Advent offerings in Trentino-Alto Adige.

Alpine Advent at Fane Alm — edition 2026

The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Alpine Advent at Fane Alm have not yet been officially announced. As per tradition, the event is expected to return on Advent Sundays, starting from the first Sunday (November 29, 2026), with the usual Christmas village at 1,739 meters above Valles, in the municipality of Rio di Pusteria.
