National dance competition at the Teatro Civico in Vercelli
Every spring, the Teatro Civico in Vercelli becomes the stage for Vercelli'n Danza, one of the most popular national dance competitions in Piedmont. Launched in 2014, the event draws young dancers and schools from all over the country to the provincial capital for a marathon of performances that brings the city to life with music, choreography, and passion from morning until night.
The event is conceived and managed by the Dance Team ASD association, a local Vercelli organization led by director Federica Rosso. To ensure the utmost impartiality, the organizers follow a strict rule: their own students are prohibited from participating in the competition. This policy has helped build the contest's credibility over the years, attracting hundreds of schools and thousands of dancers to the Vercelli stage, with a total prize pool in scholarships exceeding tens of thousands of euros.
Vercelli'n Danza is open to dancers aged six and up and is structured into various artistic sections and age groups. The main disciplines in the competition are:
Participants compete in age-based categories—from the youngest (Baby) to Senior (over 18)—in both group performances and pas de deux or solos, allowing every talent to shine on their own path.
The heart of the competition lies in the scholarships: each edition awards cash prizes and access to high-level workshops, academies, and training programs in Italy and abroad. In addition to scholarships, numerous cups and trophies are distributed, including the prestigious Vercelli'n Danza trophy for the best choreography. A jury composed of industry professionals—former dancers from major theaters, choreographers, and internationally renowned teachers—evaluates the performances with great technical and artistic attention.
For Vercelli, Vercelli'n Danza is much more than a competition: it is a celebration that brings the public into the theater and gives visibility to the new generation of dancers from Piedmont and Italy. The event is firmly established as one of the key cultural highlights of the city and the Province of Vercelli, in the heart of Piedmont.
