The Caprie stop of the Susa Valley film, environment, and historical memory festival, held at the Teatro Chiara Melesso in Novaretto
The Valsusa Filmfest is one of the most long-standing and deeply rooted film events in Piedmont. Established in 1996, it has grown into a permanent laboratory for culture, memory, and civic participation. Organized by the Valsusa Filmfest Association, the festival is a traveling showcase that, year after year, involves various municipalities in the Susa Valley and the city of Turin. The 30th edition, scheduled from March 28 to May 24, 2026, is dedicated to Fabrizio De André, the singer-songwriter and poet, and visits eight valley towns: Almese, Avigliana, Caprie, Chianocco, Condove, Oulx, San Giorio, and Villar Focchiardo, in addition to the regional capital.
In Caprie, in the province of Turin, the festival stops at the Teatro Chiara Melesso in the hamlet of Novaretto. Here, the program focuses on documentary cinema and themes of historical memory, perfectly aligning with the festival's spirit of blending the big screen with civic commitment and reflection on the Alpine territory. The Caprie evening, a highly anticipated event of the 2026 edition, is dedicated to the memory of the Liberation and ties in with the commemorations of late April and early May.
The Valsusa Filmfest is more than just a film festival: it is a cultural project revolving around themes dear to the region, from the historical memory of the Resistance to the environment, mountain life, and social inclusion. The film competition, which attracts a large number of entries from Italy and abroad every year, is divided into thematic sections including Short Films, Making Memory, The Alps, Green Screen, and Music Videos, with awards for the winners. The event also involves numerous schools and dozens of local associations.
The traveling format is the festival's hallmark: by bringing cinema into theaters, civic halls, and community spaces in small Alpine towns, the Valsusa Filmfest connects local audiences with cinematic culture and builds a bridge between the valleys and Turin. For Caprie and its hamlet of Novaretto, the stop at the Teatro Chiara Melesso represents a precious opportunity for cultural animation that highlights the municipality and the entire Susa Valley within the Metropolitan City of Turin.
For the 30th edition of the Valsusa Filmfest, dedicated to Fabrizio De André, the Caprie stop hosted an evening dedicated to documentary cinema and historical memory at the Teatro Chiara Melesso in Novaretto on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The event was part of the traveling program that, from March 28 to May 24, 2026, visited eight towns in the Susa Valley and Turin, combining the film competition with civic and environmental reflection.
The evening, with free admission, connects to the themes of historical memory and the Liberation that run through the entire 30th edition of the Valsusa Filmfest.
