Vintage cars cruising the pre-Alpine roads of the Biella region
The Valsessera Jolly Club Classic Spring Rally is one of the most cherished events for classic car enthusiasts in the municipality of Pray, in the Province of Biella, nestled in the heart of the Piedmontese pre-Alps. Organized by the ASD Valsessera Jolly Club Classic, based right in Pray, the event traditionally takes place on May 1st, attracting an increasing number of crews and spectators to the roads of the Valsessera valley every year.
The meeting point is set at the Summer Cafè, in the parking lot of the Pray Biellese shopping center, where the vehicles gather in the early morning. After registration, the briefing, and the traditional group photo, the crews set off on a route of approximately 60 kilometers that winds along the twisty, scenic roads of the Biella pre-Alps, carefully chosen each year to challenge drivers and co-drivers with hairpins, woods, and mountain vistas.
The rally is not just about motoring passion: the itinerary includes a cultural stop that highlights the local territory. In recent editions, participants have visited the Netro Iron Ecomuseum in the Elvo Valley, dedicated to the historic Rubino workshops and the area's metallurgical tradition, and in the past, the former Susta Mill in Soprana, with demonstrations of corn milling. It is a formula that weaves the history of motoring with the discovery of the industrial and rural heritage of the Biella region.
Among the stars of the rally are authentic motoring icons: numerous Porsches, the unmistakable Lancia Delta Integrales in Martini livery, elegant Lancia Fulvias, as well as Fiat 500 Abarths, Mercedes, MGs, and more curious vehicles like the OM Cerbiatto truck. A diverse fleet that tells decades of Italian and European automotive history.
The day concludes with a convivial lunch at a local restaurant, such as the Al Pratovalle restaurant in Sordevolo in recent editions. At the end, prizes are awarded for the originality of the cars and the loyalty of the crews, followed by the traditional raffle drawing. A festive finale that seals the spirit of friendship and passion that drives the Valsessera Jolly Club Classic.
Pray can be reached by car from the A26 motorway (exit Romagnano-Ghemme or Masserano) and then along the roads of the Valsessera; the meeting point is at the Summer Cafè, at the parking lot of the Pray Biellese shopping center.
