The traveling April 25th celebration in Val Pellice, hosted in Lusernetta
The Val Pellice Liberation Day Festival is the collective celebration of April 25th that Val Pellice, in the heart of the Waldensian valleys of the Metropolitan City of Turin, dedicates each year to the memory of the Resistance and the values of the Republican Constitution. Unlike individual municipal ceremonies, this festival is itinerant: from one edition to the next, it is hosted by a different municipality in the valley, so that all towns—from Torre Pellice to Luserna San Giovanni, from Angrogna to Rorà , and up to Bobbio Pellice and Lusernetta—take turns as the venue for the valley-wide commemoration.
For 2026, the valley festival was welcomed by the small municipality of Lusernetta, in the province of Turin, and held in Piazza Sant'Antonio Abate. Choosing to move the event to the Sunday preceding April 25th allows for a broader scope, involving the entire valley community in a single, grand civic gathering.
The common thread of the event is the passing of the torch between generations: alongside municipal banners, partisan associations, and authorities, a central role is entrusted to the youth. Readings by the primary school students of Lusernetta transform the commemoration into a living moment of civic education, where the memory of the Liberation becomes a shared commitment for the present.
The festival is promoted by the Val Pellice Committee for the Defense of the Values of the Resistance and the Republican Constitution, which brings together the valley's A.N.P.I. sections along with the municipalities and the Pinerolese Mountain Union. It is one of the most heartfelt expressions of the anti-fascist and partisan tradition of these valleys, a land that was among the most active centers of the Piedmontese Resistance during the war.
The 2026 Val Pellice Liberation Day Festival was hosted by Lusernetta in Piazza Sant'Antonio Abate, chosen as the venue for the collective commemoration of Val Pellice. The event, moved to the Sunday before April 25th, united the valley's municipalities in a single major civic day dedicated to the memory of the Resistance and the values of the Republican Constitution.
The program intertwined music, institutional remembrance, and participation from the younger generations, with a central role played by the local school children.
