Two days dedicated to independent publishing in the historic center of Ponsacco
Un sacco di libri is the independent literature festival that transforms the historic center of Ponsaccoโa town in the Valdera area of the province of Pisaโinto a grand space dedicated to books and culture every spring. The event takes place between the Teatro Odeon in Piazza D'Appiano and Villa Elisa with its garden, two venues that become the stage for an independent publishing fair and a packed calendar of events.
The heart of the festival is the book fair, which brings together numerous independent publishing houses and cultural associations, mostly linked to the Tuscan territory. Over the two days, visitors can browse catalogs, discover small publishing realities, engage directly with editors and authors, and participate in book presentations, in-depth discussions, performances, and workshops. The program caters to all ages, with a significant space reserved for children and families.
The calendar alternates between cultural moments and entertainment. Alongside editorial presentations, there are theatrical and musical performances, animations, and educational activities for the little ones. The festival also highlights its bond with local schools through awards and projects that bring young people closer to reading, and it offers art exhibitions designed to engage with the theme of the edition.
The 2026 edition marks the bicentenary of the birth of Carlo Collodi and revolves around The Adventures of Pinocchio, a masterpiece born right here in Tuscany and one of the most translated Italian books in the world. The Collodi-themed thread runs through meetings, readings, performances, and workshops, bringing a classic back to the center stage that continues to speak to readers of all ages.
Promoted by the Municipality of Ponsacco in collaboration with the Fondazione Cultura Pontedera and Carmignani Editrice, together with local associations and independent Tuscan publishers, Un sacco di libri is an event that grows year by year. Its free-entry format and the intimate setting of the historic center make it the perfect opportunity to discover the Valdera area and experience culture in a convivial atmosphere, in the heart of Tuscany.
The third edition of Un sacco di libri was held in Ponsacco on May 9 and 10, 2026, with a program dedicated to the bicentenary of Carlo Collodi and The Adventures of Pinocchio. The two days, spread between the Teatro Odeon and Villa Elisa, offered an independent publishing fair, book presentations, workshops for children, theatrical and musical performances, and author meetings.
Saturday opened with the inaugural ceremony in the presence of local authorities, followed by activities for children and in-depth sessions. Sunday featured performances by the Gruppo Alfieri e Musici di Porta Pisana and the Compagnia d'Arme del Leone Rampante, meetings dedicated to Collodi, and, in the afternoon, events at Villa Elisa blending literature, theater, and music, with a snack in the garden as a convivial moment open to all.
