The urban knitting festival that wraps the historic center of Barberino di Mugello in wool and imagination
Un Filo di… is the urban knitting festival that transforms the historic center of Barberino di Mugello (Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany) into a colorful stage of knitting, crochet, embroidery, mosaics, and recycled materials every June. The art of knit graffiti covers street furniture, trees, railings, shop windows, and hidden corners of the village, offering visitors a walk suspended between fairy tales and craftsmanship.
The event began in 2013 from an idea by the Knit Café group, who proposed decorating the village streets with knitted works. Since then, the initiative has grown into one of the most appreciated urban knitting events in Tuscany, attracting enthusiasts, curious visitors, and families from all over the region and beyond to the Municipality of Barberino di Mugello.
The 2026 edition is titled "Alice in the Land of Tangles", a creative tribute to Lewis Carroll's masterpiece where "tangles" represent both the colorful threads of the installations and a metaphor for a fantastic world. Among the urban installations, "Jump into the Burrow" stands out in Piazza Cavour, while the Catalyst Company presents the evening performance "Dreaming Wonderland".
More than just an art exhibition, Un Filo di… is a collective project: it is brought to life by the Penelope Cultural Association together with the Municipality of Barberino di Mugello, the Pro Loco for Barberino, the "Sul filo del tempo" association, the "Vivi Barberino" merchants' committee, the Coop Members Section, and numerous local volunteer groups. The result is a literal and symbolic weaving of hands, generations, and creativity that tells the story of the Mugello's artisanal identity.
The 2026 edition of Un Filo di… transforms Barberino di Mugello into a fairy tale inspired by the world of Lewis Carroll, with knitting and crochet installations along Corso Corsini and Piazza Cavour. The event takes place on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21, preceded by a preview on Friday the 19th.
Among the scheduled events: the inauguration of the urban installation "Jump into the Burrow" in Piazza Cavour and the evening performance "Dreaming Wonderland" by the Catalyst Company, ending with the closing concert of the "Giuseppe Verdi" Philharmonic of Barberino.
By car: Barberino di Mugello is served by the exit of the same name on the A1 Autostrada del Sole, about 30 km from Florence. By train: the nearest station is Borgo San Lorenzo, connected to Florence; from there, continue by local bus.
Admission to all installations and events is free.
The installations are located in the pedestrian historic center: we recommend parking in areas outside the village and continuing on foot. It is the ideal time to combine your visit with exploring the Mugello area, Lake Bilancino, and local gastronomy.
