Summer, cinema, music, and leisure in the open-air arena of Bruneck
For over twenty years, UFO-Summer has been the go-to event for summer evenings in Bruneck, the main town of the Puster Valley in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-South Tyrol. The event is promoted by the Jugend- und Kulturzentrum UFO, the city's youth and cultural center, which every year turns the natural arena in front of its building into an open-air cinema and a stage for live music. The motto that has accompanied the festival for years is "Summer, cinema, music, and leisure".
The heart of UFO-Summer is the open-air cinema: in the natural arena, facing a giant screen with optimal views from every seat, dozens of films are screened each summer. Evening screenings are usually held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 PM and feature a curated selection alternating between auteur titles, European cinema, and lighter productions suitable for the summer season. In case of bad weather, screenings move to the center's indoor hall.
UFO-Summer does not forget families: the Kinderkino offers films for children on Tuesday afternoons at 5:00 PM in the indoor hall, with a theme that changes every year and a program of entertainment and games that welcomes the little ones from the afternoon onwards.
On Wednesday evenings, starting at 8:30 PM, the arena transforms into a garden café with the "Voices" concert series. The festival focuses on a mix of young, emerging bands and established musicians from South Tyrol, with a perspective that looks beyond borders: from indie-folk to ethno-jazz, the musical programming is designed as a high-quality journey of discovery in an informal and convivial atmosphere.
Among the special highlights of UFO-Summer is the regional Poetry Slam final, which brings the best spoken-word performers of South Tyrol to Bruneck. Over the years, the festival has also hosted summer parties dedicated to the center's anniversaries and side initiatives linked to major sporting events, with DJ set evenings in the arena.
Thanks to the support of the Municipality of Bruneck and its municipal companies, the Office for Youth Work, the Film and Media Office, and numerous partners and sponsors, all UFO-Summer events are free of charge. This is one of the distinctive features of the event, which serves as a cultural resource open to the entire Puster Valley community and tourists vacationing in this part of Trentino-South Tyrol.
The 27th edition of UFO-Summer takes place from June 30 to August 20, 2026 in the natural arena in front of the UFO youth and cultural center in Bruneck, with the motto "Summer, cinema, music, and leisure".
Evening screenings are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 PM. Among the titles scheduled: Der ganz große Traum (July 16), Die leisen und die großen Töne (July 21), Father Mother Sister Brother (July 23), Io sono ancora qui (July 30), All We Imagine As Light (August 4), Io sono Li (August 11), and Köln 75 (August 18).
Children's cinema takes place on Tuesdays at 5:00 PM in the indoor hall, with an animation program starting at 4:00 PM. Among the films: Shorty und das Geheimnis des Zauberriffs (July 14), Sowas von super! (July 21), and Arielle, die Meerjungfrau (July 28).
On Wednesdays at 8:30 PM, artists in the "Voices" series include: Napaea with support from Lisa Laner (indie-folk, July 22) and the duo Rina Kaçinari & Maria Craffonara (ethno-jazz Kosovo & South Tyrol, July 29), as well as Robins Huat, Since11, bbenob, Bita, Azora, and Timbreroots.
The Poetry Slam final is scheduled for August 14, hosted by MC Lene Morgenstern with guests like Nathan der Nice. From July 9 to 19, the arena will also host the World Cup Fan Mile with DJ sets by the "Nova" collective.
