The UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in the heart of the Pale di San Martino
In September 2026, the Primiero Valley, located in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), will become the world capital of mountain bike marathon racing. The UCI MTB Marathon World Championships is the prestigious event that crowns the world champions in the marathon discipline—the toughest and most captivating form of off-road cycling, defined by long distances, grueling climbs, and technical descents through pristine nature.
The 2026 edition makes history: for the first time, Elite and Master (Age Group) categories will compete on the same weekend and the same course. The Elite men's and women's races are scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, while the Master world titles will be awarded on Sunday, September 13, 2026, with twelve jerseys up for grabs across different age groups. The start and finish lines are set in Fiera di Primiero, the valley's main town.
The championship course measures approximately 87 kilometers with 3,530 meters of elevation gain, following the demanding route of the Mythos Primiero Dolomiti granfondo. From the start in Fiera di Primiero, riders will reach Lake Welsperg and Col dei Cistri, climbing toward Val di Roda and the scenic Prati Col, offering open views of Sass Maor and Cima della Madonna. The route then traverses Malga Ces, the trails of the Colbricon Bike Park, and the San Martino Bike Arena, tackling the steep ascents toward Malga Valcigolera and the Tognola Bike Arena before the spectacular final descents back to the valley floor.
The backdrop is the Pale di San Martino, the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomite group that dominates the Primiero Valley and the resort of San Martino di Castrozza. Beyond the sport, the event is an opportunity to discover an authentic mountain landscape, filled with alpine huts, forests, bike parks, and trails—an ideal destination for lovers of cycling and alpine nature in Trentino.
The championship weekend in Primiero San Martino di Castrozza kicks off with training days and course inspections (September 10-11) and the opening ceremony. Saturday, September 12 sees the awarding of the Elite world titles: the men's race starts in the morning, followed by the women's event. Sunday, September 13 is dedicated to the Master (Age Group) categories, starting at 8:30 AM, concurrently with the amateur granfondo races Mythos Primiero Dolomiti Marathon (9:00 AM) and Classic (9:30 AM).
The championship route measures approximately 87 km with 3,530 m of elevation gain, with start and finish in Fiera di Primiero, passing through Val di Roda, Prati Col, Malga Ces, the Colbricon Bike Park, the San Martino Bike Arena, and the Tognola Bike Arena. The weekend is also animated by the Mythos Bike & Tech Expo and the award ceremonies with the presentation of the world champion jerseys.
