The historic rally of the Tuscan Maremma, winding through the hilly roads of Castiglione della Pescaia
The Trofeo Maremma, also known as the Maremma Rally, is one of the most deeply rooted and popular motorsport events in Tuscany. Established in 1976, it transforms the hilly roads and panoramic coastal stretches of the Grosseto area into a theater of speed, technique, and passion every spring. The race is organized by the MaremmaCorse 2.0 team, led by patron Paolo Santini, and attracts crews from all over Italy, along with numerous enthusiasts who flock to the timed sections.
The 2026 edition marked a historic milestone: the 50th edition, the so-called "golden anniversary" of the Trofeo Maremma. A major innovation was the selection of Castiglione della Pescaia, in the heart of the Maremma in the province of Grosseto, as the absolute hub of the event. For the first time, the seaside village hosted the entire race headquarters: the Race Direction and press room were set up at the municipal library, the service park in Piazza Ponte Giorgini, and the start and finish ceremonies along Via Cristoforo Colombo, overlooking the harbor canal.
The course winds through special stages that have become legendary in Tuscan rallying. The "Follonica", a night-time spectator stage in the Palagolfo area, kicks off the action with a technical layout featuring hairpins and chicanes. On Sunday, the challenge moves to the Maremma classics: the "Tirli", with its historic bumps near Scarlino; the "Gavorrano", which starts in Caldana and crosses Ravi with rapid descents and the "Castagno" hairpin; and the "Capanne", overlooking Lake dell'Accesa, featuring a fast finish and two decisive switchbacks.
Beyond its sporting dimension, the Trofeo Maremma is an opportunity to promote the region. The race combines the charm of Maremma's roads, the beauty of the villages in the Grosseto province, and the vibrancy of a community of fans who have been following the race for half a century. For Castiglione della Pescaia, one of Tuscany's most renowned seaside resorts, the event represents a major draw at the start of the season, animating the town center and inland hamlets with the roar of engines and the atmosphere typical of the great classic rallies.
The 50th edition of the Trofeo Maremma celebrated the "golden wedding" of the race with record-breaking numbers: 110 registered crews, compared to the 70-80 of previous editions, and 18 Rally2 class cars at the start. The race, the second round of the Coppa Rally di Zona 7 and valid for the Trofeo Rally Toscano, consisted of 10 special stages for a total of 64 timed kilometers.
