The 10km road race spanning fifty years of running history in Caserta
The Trofeo Città di Maddaloni is one of the longest-running road races in the province of Caserta: ten competitive kilometers that, every spring, transform the streets of Maddaloni into a vibrant ribbon of sport and community celebration. The event is organized by the ASD Amici del Podismo - Maddaloni and is held under the aegis of OPES Italia and CONI, with the patronage of the Municipality of Maddaloni, the Province of Caserta, and the local Pro Loco.
The urban course is laid out on the slopes of Monte San Michele and passes through the city's most iconic landmarks: historic palaces, churches, ancient views, and the Norman castle overlooking the town. Running the Trofeo means traversing the memory of Maddaloni, in a continuous dialogue between athletic performance and urban heritage. The passage through the Villaggio dei Ragazzi—the city's symbolic heart and a landmark for generations of residents—is particularly poignant.
The history of the Trofeo mirrors that of its organizing club. The Amici del Podismo were founded in Maddaloni in 1976, affiliated with FIASP in 1982, and with FIDAL in 1988, becoming a cornerstone of the Campania running calendar over the years. In 2026, the association led by president Domenico Servidei reached the fifty-year milestone, celebrated with the fiftieth edition of the race and a conference dedicated to its history.
Beyond the competition, the Trofeo Città di Maddaloni has built a strong inclusive identity in recent years. Since 2025, wheelchair athletes have participated in the race thanks to a collaboration with ANFI Sport and the «Sogno Attivo» project—a choice that has transformed the event and is met with applause from the public all along the route. Families, children, and enthusiasts fill the sidewalks, turning the morning into a true community festival rather than just a race.
The Trofeo also presents the «Vincenzo Pascarella» Award, reserved for the first male athlete in the SM/MM 55 category: a recognition that links the race to the memory of those who built the history of running in Maddaloni and who still embody its spirit today.
Maddaloni is located just a few kilometers from Caserta, in the heart of Campania, and its race attracts athletes from across the region and beyond every year: in 2025, there were over seven hundred registered participants, while in 2026, more than five hundred athletes took to the starting line. For those visiting the province of Caserta, the Trofeo is also an opportunity to discover a city often overlooked by mainstream tourist itineraries, yet rich in historical layers and surprisingly vibrant community life.
The 2026 edition of the Trofeo Città di Maddaloni was the most symbolic in its history: the race launched the celebrations for the half-century of activity of the ASD Amici del Podismo - Maddaloni, founded in 1976. On Sunday, April 26, the streets of the center, with their ancient cobblestones, were filled with runners from all over Campania and other Italian regions.
The start was given at 8:30 AM by Professor Pippo Affinito, with the authorization of the Sports Councilor Caterina Ventrone. Among the participants was also the Councilor for Productive Activities, Antonio De Rosa, who chose to run instead of watching the race from the stands. Along the route, the passage through the Villaggio dei Ragazzi was met with applause, as was the arrival of the wheelchair athletes from «Sogno Attivo» and ANFI Sport.
In the men's category, Gennaro Betti (Tifata Runners) won in 34'02", ahead of Giacomo Capuano (Atl. Marcianise, 34'09") and Valerio Adamo (Podistica Sammaritana, 34'54"). Among the women, Katiuscia Capua (Atletica San Nicola) succeeded in 42'00", followed by Eva Teresa (Atletica MacaSport, 42'46") and Shirin Khosravi Beatrice (Atletica MacaSport, 43'50"). The fiftieth-anniversary celebrations continued on May 22 with a conference in the Iorio Hall of the Municipal Library.
Conference and afternoon celebration in the Iorio Hall of the Maddaloni Municipal Library, to look back on fifty years of sport, friendship, sharing, and inclusion of the Amici del Podismo.
The race takes place in spring, traditionally on the last Sunday of April, starting from the center of Maddaloni (ZIP 81024), in the province of Caserta. In 2026, the start was at 8:30 AM.
Registration is handled online via the Camelot Sport APD portal, the official timekeeper of the event. In 2025, the entry fee was 8 euros, and registration closed early due to reaching the participant limit: it is recommended to register well in advance.
The course is urban and partly on ancient cobblestones: road shoes with good cushioning are recommended. Access for the public along the route is free; the best spots to watch are the historic center and near the Villaggio dei Ragazzi.
