The classic spring road race by Podistica Buschese
The Trofeo ANA of Busca is one of the most deeply rooted events in the Cuneo running calendar. Organized by Podistica Buschese in collaboration with the Alpini Group (ANA) of Busca, the event takes place in the municipality of Busca, in the province of Cuneo, at the foot of the valleys leading to the Maritime and Cottian Alps. The event was established in 1979 and is dedicated to the Alpini who founded the sports association: it is no coincidence that the name refers to the National Alpini Association, the heart and soul of this race.
The competitive race winds along a course of approximately 10.1 kilometers, starting and finishing at the former Capannoni area. Athletes immediately take the famous "Maira trail," quickly cross the historic center of Busca, and head towards the hill of Rossana, running alongside the Talutto stream. Once at the top of the climb, the route returns towards Busca, passing through the hamlet of Santo Stefano, before descending to rejoin the Maira trail until the finish line. It is a varied itinerary that alternates between urban stretches, countryside, and gentle hilly climbs, highly appreciated by runners for its natural setting.
Before the adult competitive race, numerous youth races are held, ranging from the youngest categories to cadets, bringing the starting area to life from the morning. The organizational machine involves the Alpini, Civil Protection, the Busca Local Police, and dozens of volunteers, who ensure safety along the course with temporary road closures during the athletes' passage.
More than just a race, the Trofeo ANA is a celebration for the entire Busca community. The day combines a passion for running with the spirit of solidarity typical of the Alpine world, in a setting that showcases the Piedmont region and, in particular, the beauty of the province of Cuneo. For many runners, it is also an opportunity to kick off the spring racing season in a friendly and familiar atmosphere.
The 47th edition of the Trofeo ANA of Busca was held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with the meeting point at the former Capannoni area from the early hours of the morning. As per tradition, the morning opened with youth races, from the smallest categories to cadets, followed by the competitive race of approximately 10.1 km along the Maira trail, the center of Busca, and the climb towards Rossana. The edition, under the slogan "sport and collaboration," saw the active participation of the Alpini, Civil Protection, Local Police, and numerous volunteers to ensure the safety of the course.
Busca can be reached by car from Cuneo (approx. 15 km) or from Saluzzo via the SP589. The nearest train station with good connections is Cuneo, from where you can continue by bus or car. The meeting point and start are located in the former Capannoni area.
Registration is handled through Podistica Buschese; for the detailed program, start times, and participation details, please visit www.podisticabuschese.com or email [email protected].
We recommend clothing suitable for the spring season, which can still be cool in the Cuneo area. There is ample parking available near the starting area.
