A city-wide celebration across historic villas and local neighborhoods
For several years, the Trapani Carnival has adopted an original format that sets it apart from the large float parades of nearby towns: a true city-wide festival that reaches the historic villas and neighborhoods of the provincial capital in Sicily. Instead of concentrating the festivities in a single square, the municipal administration brings the Carnival entertainment directly to the places families frequent every day, from public gardens to local parish communities.
The program spans four days with events scheduled throughout the morning and afternoon. Activities take place in iconic city landmarks such as Villa Pepoli, Villa Regina Margherita, and Villa Peppino Impastato, as well as in outlying districts and neighborhoods like Xitta, Borgo Livio Bassi, and Ummari, thanks to collaborations with numerous local parishes.
The choice to host a widespread festival stems from a clear vision: to make Carnival a social occasion accessible to everyone, in every corner of the city. All events are free to attend, require no booking, and are specifically designed for children. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Trapani in collaboration with the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, one of the city's historic cultural institutions.
Carnival is one of the most deeply felt popular traditions throughout the province of Trapani, where towns like Valderice, Paceco, Mazara del Vallo, and Salemi parade with their traditional allegorical floats. The city of Trapani complements this tradition with its unique widespread format, weaving together folklore, entertainment, and neighborhood life during a particularly vibrant time of year for all of Western Sicily.
The Trapani Carnival 2026 took place from February 14 to 17 with a program of fifteen free events distributed among the public gardens and neighborhoods of the capital, confirming the city-wide festival format promoted by the Municipality of Trapani and the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese.
All events were free to attend.
Events take place in various locations across Trapani: Villa Pepoli, Villa Regina Margherita, Villa Peppino Impastato, and numerous neighborhood and district parishes (Xitta, Borgo Livio Bassi, Ummari).
Trapani is accessible by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway. The Trapani railway station connects the city with Palermo. Trapani-Birgi Airport (Vincenzo Florio) is located just a few kilometers from the city center.
All events are free, and no booking is required.
