About Trame Fuori Centro

Trame Fuori Centro is a travelling street theatre festival that turns the streets of Rome's Municipio VIII into open-air stages. Featuring five free events, including drama tours and drama games with professional actors, the festival invites the public to rediscover the city's most evocative neighbourhoods, from the Appia Antica to Tor Marancia and Valco San Paolo on the Ostiense. Professional actors use humour to share stories, memories, and legends of a Rome far from the usual tourist circuits, where modernity and tradition intertwine along its streets, walls, and squares.

Theatre beyond the stage

Trame Fuori Centro is a widespread street theatre festival that brings live performance out of traditional venues and directly into the streets, squares, and historic routes of Municipio VIII in Rome. Conceived and curated by Dramatrà Impresa Sociale, the event offers five free appointments that weave together history, memory, and theatrical performance, inviting citizens and visitors to see the neighbourhoods stretching south of the capital—in the heart of the Lazio Region—with fresh eyes.

Five events in Municipio VIII

The project turns the territory into a vast open-air stage: theatrical walking tours, drama tours, and drama games with professional actors lead the public through places steeped in history and urban transformation. Each event is designed as a participatory experience, where walking becomes part of the dramaturgy and the neighbourhood itself becomes a character.

The featured neighbourhoods

The itineraries cross some of the most distinctive areas of Municipio VIII, from the Appia Antica with its ancient legends, to Tor Marancia with its working-class roots and murals, and finally to Valco San Paolo and Ostiense, where industrial archaeology, street art, and ancient monuments coexist in a landscape of constant reinvention.

  • Valco San Paolo: Neighbourhood Stories between Modernity and Tradition — a drama tour along the Via Ostiense, passing the Pyramid of Cestius, the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, and warehouses transformed into new cultural spaces.
  • Appia Antica South: Ancient Secrets and Legends — a drama game with actors along the route of the ancient consular road, exploring memories of martyrs, heroes, and forgotten figures.

Drama tours and drama games

Dramatrà's style combines guided tours with acting: actors accompany participants, recounting the history of the locations with both humour and historical rigour. The drama tour focuses on the theatrical narration of the route, while the drama game actively involves the audience in a collective discovery, suitable for families and younger visitors alike.

A project for Creative Rome

Trame Fuori Centro was born as part of the initiatives supported by Roma Capitale to promote the cultural value of municipal territories, with the goal of making culture accessible and free even in areas far from the monumental centre. It is a bet on a decentralised Rome, made of local communities, small stories, and shared heritage.

Rome beyond the centre

With Trame Fuori Centro, the Municipality of Rome and Municipio VIII propose a different way to experience the city: not the Rome of postcards, but the one of neighbourhoods that tell the millennial stratification of the capital of Lazio, where every street holds a story waiting to be rediscovered on foot, together.

Trame Fuori Centro — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Trame Fuori Centro has not yet been officially announced. The street theatre festival of Rome's Municipio VIII, launched in 2025 by Dramatrà, may renew its programme of theatrical walking tours through the neighbourhoods of Appia Antica, Tor Marancia, and Ostiense.

At the moment, there are no official dates or a published programme for the 2026 edition of Trame Fuori Centro. The event debuted in autumn 2025 as a project supported by Roma Capitale's cultural initiatives for Municipio VIII. Information regarding a potential new edition will be released by the organisation Dramatrà, presumably in the autumn months. We recommend checking for updates on the official website.
