A parade of agricultural machinery celebrating the farming heritage of Cupello
The Tractor and Agricultural Float Parade is the event where the Municipality of Cupello, in the heart of the Chieti province in Abruzzo, celebrates the labor of the fields and its rural identity every May 1st. It is more than just a display of machinery: it is a collective tribute to those who work the land with passion, generation after generation, and to the agricultural traditions that have shaped the landscape and community of this corner of the Vastese region.
Born from the initiative of the Cupello Tractor Committee and supported by the local administration, the event has grown year after year to become one of the most cherished dates on the local calendar, drawing families, curious visitors, and enthusiasts along the entire route.
The heart of the day is the procession of agricultural vehicles: vintage and modern tractors, festively decorated floats, and traditional farming equipment parade slowly through the streets, flanked by crowds of spectators. The procession starts from the hamlet of Montalfano, in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, before reaching the center of Cupello, concluding with an official ceremony featuring greetings from local authorities and a blessing by the parish priest.
The parade takes place in conjunction with the Cynara Festival del Carciofo, the festival that transforms Cupello into the capital of its most iconic product in early May. The absolute star is the mazzaferrata artichoke, a local delicacy that has represented the symbol of Cupello's agriculture for generations, around which tastings, food stalls, and cultural initiatives revolve. The tractor parade thus becomes the popular, rustic soul of a larger celebration dedicated to the land and its fruits.
Participating in the Tractor and Agricultural Float Parade means immersing yourself in a day of farming pride, where the roar of engines becomes a celebration and the mazzaferrata artichoke tells the story of an entire territory.
The eighth edition of the Cupello Tractor and Agricultural Float Parade was held on Friday, May 1st, 2026, confirming its status as one of the most popular events of the spring in the Vastese region. Over 40 vehicles — vintage and modern tractors, festively decorated floats, and agricultural equipment — brought the town's streets to life in a long procession open to the public.
The event took place in conjunction with the Cynara Festival del Carciofo, focusing on the famous mazzaferrata artichoke, an agricultural excellence that serves as a symbol of Cupello. An edition that united memory, labor, and farming pride around the rural identity of the village.
