About Gente di Mare

Every December 5th, on the feast day of the patron saint San Basso, Termoli celebrates the Gente di Mare Award, an honour bestowed by the municipal administration upon citizens, associations, and entities that have distinguished themselves in their respective fields, promoting maritime culture and the identity of Termoli. A ceremony at the Auditorium in Via Elba that tells the true soul of the city.

An award that tells the story of Termoli

The Gente di Mare Award is the commendation that the Municipality of Termoli (Province of Campobasso) reserves annually for the citizens of Termoli who have most distinguished themselves in their professional fields and in the life of the community. Established in the late eighties, it is one of the most heartfelt recognitions in the city, linked to maritime culture and local identity.

On the patron saint's day

The ceremony takes place on December 5th, on the day dedicated to the patron saint San Basso, at the Auditorium in Via Elba, before a large audience of citizens. Fishermen, artists, athletes, associations, representatives of law enforcement, and deserving students take turns on stage: a mosaic that tells the story of the city in all its components.

The true soul of the city

The Gente di Mare Award celebrates not only prominent figures but, above all, those who, through their daily work, bring value to Termoli: from fishermen to volunteers, from artisans to students. It is a moment that intertwines memory, gratitude, and a sense of belonging, in close connection with the winter feast of San Basso.
