The liturgical commemoration of the patron saint of Termoli and the diocese
On December 5th, Termoli (Province of Campobasso) celebrates San Basso d'Inverno, the liturgical commemoration of the patron saint of the city and the entire diocese of Termoli-Larino. This is the winter feast of the patron saint, distinct from the summer celebrations, and represents a moment of deep reflection for the community.
The celebration begins at dawn with the solemn pontifical Mass in the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Purificazione, presided over by the bishop and attended by the clergy, civil and military authorities, maritime associations, and volunteers. At the end of the Mass, a procession proceeds to the port for a moment of commemoration in memory of all those lost at sea, with the renewal of the fishermen's prayer.
San Basso d'Inverno unites spirituality, memory, and community. For a city that has always lived by its relationship with the Adriatic Sea, the tribute to the "People of the Sea" is the heart of the feast: a deep bond between faith and maritime life, renewed each year in early December.
