The grand finale of the Tour de Ski on the legendary Alpe Cermis climb
The Tour de Ski is the stage race that kicks off the competitive year of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, and its epilogue has always been written in Val di Fiemme, in the municipality of Cavalese, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). The valley is the only venue to have hosted every edition of the event since its inception, a record that makes it the natural home of this competition and one of the most beloved stages for both athletes and fans of world-class cross-country skiing.
The Fiemme finale is spread over two consecutive stages, featuring the best cross-country skiers on the planet:
The Final Climb ascends the Olimpia III alpine ski slope of Alpe Cermis, above Cavalese: over 400 meters of elevation gain with sections reaching nearly 30% gradient. It is the most spectacular finish in the cross-country calendar, where the Tour de Ski general classification can be overturned in the final meters and where athletes arrive at their physical limit between two walls of spectators. Whoever reaches the finish line at the top of Alpe Cermis first earns their place in the history of the sport.
Admission to the race areas is free: all you need is comfortable boots and a desire to cheer to experience one of the most important winter events in Trentino up close. Surrounding the races are the event village, the valley's food and wine offerings, and an international crowd that flocks to the slopes and villages of Val di Fiemme every year.
A land of great Nordic traditions, Val di Fiemme has hosted World Championships and World Cup stages, and its facilities in Lago di Tesero are among the most modern on the circuit. Attending the Tour de Ski finale means experiencing sport at the highest level in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Trentino Dolomites, amidst fir forests, mountain villages, and the imposing backdrop of Alpe Cermis.
The 2026 edition, the twentieth in the history of the Tour de Ski, concluded in Val di Fiemme on Saturday, January 3, and Sunday, January 4. On Saturday, the classic technique sprint took place at the Lago di Tesero Cross-Country Stadium (qualifiers from 12:15 PM, finals from 2:45 PM); on Sunday, the 10 km freestyle mass start featured the Final Climb up Alpe Cermis (men's start at 11:30 AM, women's at 3:30 PM).
At the end of the final climb, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the Tour de Ski in the men's category, while Jessie Diggins secured the women's classification. The event also served as an important test ahead of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, with Olympic cross-country skiing scheduled to take place at Lago di Tesero.
By car: take the A22 Brenner motorway exit at Egna/Ora or Trento, then follow the SS48 of the Dolomites to Cavalese and Tesero. By train: arrive at Trento or Ora stations, then take the local bus to Val di Fiemme.
