The wine and culture festival of the Valdisieve, in the heart of Pontassieve
Established in 1969, Toscanello d'Oro has been the flagship event of Pontassieveโa town in the Valdisieve area of the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscanyโfor over fifty years. Organized by the Pro Loco of Pontassieve in collaboration with the Chianti Rufina Consortium and the municipalities of Pontassieve and Pelago, the festival transforms the entire historic center into a grand stage dedicated to wine, the local territory, and culture.
The heart of the event is wine, with a special focus on the Chianti Rufina denomination and local Valdisieve production. Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II becomes the "Wine Citadel", while Via Tanzini transforms into the "Wine Route": by purchasing the Wine Card, visitors can manage their own tasting journey, meet local producers, participate in guided tastings, and buy directly from the wineries. There is also space for other local delicacies such as extra virgin olive oil and honey, featured at the "Honey bar".
Alongside the wine stands, Toscanello d'Oro offers a rich program of shows: the stages in Piazza Cairoli and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II host big names in Italian music and entertainment, while Piazza Boetani becomes the hub for the younger scene with concerts, DJ sets, and parties. Conferences, book presentations, and cultural moments complete a program that counts over ninety appointments, including tastings, sports events, workshops, and exhibitions.
With over 40,000 visitors, dozens of wineries involved, and about 150 volunteers, Toscanello d'Oro is much more than a food festival: it is a tool for promoting the territory and fostering social cohesion throughout the Valdisieve. An unmissable appointment for those who want to discover the wines and flavors of the Florentine hills, just a few kilometers from Florence.
The 57th edition of Toscanello d'Oro confirmed its role as the queen event of the Valdisieve: over 40,000 visitors, nearly 2,000 Wine Cards sold, 18 participating wineries, and more than 90 scheduled events, supported by about 150 volunteers. The historic center of Pontassieve came alive with the "Wine Citadel" in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and the "Wine Route" in Via Tanzini, featuring guided tastings, masterclasses dedicated to Chianti Rufina, and spaces for extra virgin olive oil and honey.
Pontassieve is located about 18 km east of Florence, along the SR69 road of the Valdisieve. By train, the Pontassieve station is well-connected to Florence Santa Maria Novella. By car, take the A1 motorway, exit at Firenze Sud, and follow the SR69.
During the event, a free shuttle bus service runs approximately every 20 minutes from the parking areas to the historic center.
Access to the event is free. For tastings along the "Wine Route", it is necessary to purchase the Wine Card in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.
