The celebration of seafood cuisine on the Tortoreto Lido seafront
The Clam Festival is one of the most anticipated and long-standing summer events on the Teramo coast. For nearly half a century, the festival has enlivened Piazzale Caduti di Nassirya, in the heart of Tortoreto Lido, within the municipality of Tortoreto in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Organized by the Associazione Tortoreto in Mare, the festival promotes the maritime culture of the Adriatic coast and one of its iconic products: the clam.
The absolute star is the clam, cooked according to traditional recipes as well as more creative reinterpretations. The food stalls, open every evening from 7:30 PM, offer a menu that combines the flavors of the Abruzzo coast with a few influences from the neighboring Marche region:
All this in an informal and welcoming setting, perfect for families and groups of friends, with tables set up just a stone's throw from the beach.
Each evening is accompanied by live music and entertainment, capturing the authentic spirit of local village festivals. The event is part of the rich summer calendar in Tortoreto, featuring concerts, re-enactments of traditional fishing, and seafront gatherings, helping to make Tortoreto one of the most vibrant seaside destinations on the Abruzzo Riviera.
Born in the late 1970s, the Clam Festival has grown to become a symbol of Tortoreto's maritime identity. More than just a food festival, it represents a community moment that celebrates the deep bond between the town and its sea, passing on the traditions of fishing and seafood cooking to new generations.
From August 5th to 9th, 2026, Piazzale Caduti di Nassirya in Tortoreto Lido hosts the 48th edition of the Clam Festival, organized by the Associazione Tortoreto in Mare. For five evenings, food stalls open from 7:30 PM will offer classic clam-based dishes and Abruzzese seafood specialties.
Accompanying the tastings, there will be live music and entertainment every evening. The festival is part of the Tortoreto summer calendar, which includes other seafront events during the same period, such as a tribute to the band Ricchi e Poveri and a re-enactment of traditional fishing with the 'sciabica' net.
