The tortellino festival in Querciola, on the Bolognese Apennines
The Tortellino Festival takes place in Querciola, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere, in the high Bolognese Apennines in Emilia-Romagna. At about 820 meters above sea level, at the foot of Monte Belvedere and a few kilometers from the Corno alle Scale Regional Park, the village comes alive for two days around the iconic dish of Emilian cuisine: tortellini.
The heart of the festival are the food stalls managed by the Pro Loco Querciola, where tortellini are served in the traditional regional preparations: tortellini in broth, steaming and fragrant as Bolognese tradition dictates, and tortellini with cream, rich and enveloping. Often, the pasta is hand-rolled by local volunteers, following the ritual that has accompanied Apennine festivals for generations.
In addition to gastronomy, the festival offers the authentic atmosphere of mountain festivals: outdoor tables, live music, and convivial moments that bring together residents, holidaymakers, and passing hikers. During the summer months, Querciola and the entire Lizzano in Belvedere area experience a season of festivals and fairs organized by local Pro Loco associations, of which the Tortellino Festival is one of the most anticipated events.
Querciola owes its name and history to a charming legend: that of the dried flower, or the miraculous winter blooming on the branches of an oak tree, which gave rise to the small church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of San Luca. Today, the village is an ideal base for those who want to explore the trails of Monte Belvedere and Corno alle Scale, the highest peak in the Bolognese Apennines, on foot, by mountain bike, or by e-bike.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Tortellino Festival in Querciola are confirmed for Saturday, July 4th, and Sunday, July 5th, 2026, with food stalls opening from 12:00 PM on Saturday.
The detailed program, including full times, any musical evenings, and the menu from Pro Loco Querciola, has not yet been published. It will be updated as soon as the organizers release the official flyer. The presence of tortellini in broth and with cream as the festival's signature dishes is confirmed.
