The Alto Tavoliere drama series hosted between the Ducal Castle and the San Giovanni Bosco Auditorium
The Torremaggiore Theatre Season is the winter highlight for drama, presented annually by the Municipality of Torremaggioreโa hub in the Alto Tavoliere area of the province of Foggiaโin collaboration with Puglia Culture, the regional live performance circuit of the Puglia region. The festival brings top-tier names from the Italian theatre scene to a town of just under seventeen thousand residents, offering the community a high-quality programme at accessible prices.
Performances take place in two iconic local landmarks. The Sala Consiliare of the De Sangro Ducal Castle, an ancient feudal residence overlooking the historic centre, provides an intimate and evocative setting for recitals and monologues. The larger Auditorium of the San Giovanni Bosco school complex hosts comedy shows and productions with higher audience capacity.
Each edition features a mix of classic adaptations, intelligent comedy, conversation-style shows, and literary events. The stages of Torremaggiore have welcomed performers such as Enrico Lo Verso, Alessandro Preziosi, Giobbe Covatta, Saverio Raimondo, and the duo Antonio Stornaiolo and Daniela Baldassarra, starring in productions ranging from Pirandello to satire on couple life.
The Municipality's cultural programming extends beyond the evening schedule: alongside the drama performances, there are Sunday family events and the "La Scena dei Ragazzi" (The Youth Scene) series, featuring matinees dedicated to schools. This project has supported Torremaggiore students for over thirty years, using theatre as a tool for personal growth and education.
Thanks to affordable ticket prices and several free-entry events, the Theatre Season reaffirms its public service mission: bringing high-quality contemporary theatre to an inland area of Puglia, far from major city circuits, and cultivating a loyal audience across all ages and backgrounds.
The 2025/26 programme of the Torremaggiore Theatre Season brought together four quality events from late November to early February. The opening, on Sunday, November 30, 2025, in the Sala Consiliare of the Ducal Castle, featured Enrico Lo Verso in Uno Nessuno Centomila, an homage to Luigi Pirandello's masterpiece, directed and adapted by Alessandra Pizzi. On December 21, the San Giovanni Bosco Auditorium hosted Spos(s)ati, a conversation-show about couple life with Antonio Stornaiolo and Daniela Baldassarra. On January 16, 2026, Alessandro Preziosi engaged in a dialogue with Raffaello Fusaro during the special event L'Arte di Leggere, dedicated to the passion for reading. The closing, on February 1, 2026, was entrusted to La Strada with Leonardo Losavio and Roberto Galano.
Torremaggiore is located in the Alto Tavoliere, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Poggio Imperiale-Lesina or San Severo exits) and the SS16 state road. The nearest train station is San Severo, on the Bologna-Bari line, which is connected to the town by local bus services.
Unreserved seating: 12 euros full price, 8 euros student discount; some events offer free entry. The box office opens approximately one week before each show; tickets can be collected at the Culture Office (Via Costituente 29) or on-site from 6:00 PM.
