About Almond Festival

The Toritto Almond Festival is an experiential tourism event dedicated to the renowned Toritto almond, a Slow Food Presidium, located in the heart of the Province of Bari on the edge of the Alta Murgia National Park. Organized by the Pro Loco Toritto-Quasano APS, it features guided tours of almond groves, harvesting and processing demonstrations, pastry workshops, and tastings. A journey blending nature, rural traditions, and gastronomy, taking place between late summer and early autumn.

The Toritto Almond Festival

The Toritto Almond Festival is an experiential tourism event celebrating one of Puglia's most precious treasures: the Toritto almond, a recognized Slow Food Presidium. The event takes place in the town of Toritto, in the Province of Bari, at the gates of the Alta Murgia National Park, and is organized by the Pro Loco Toritto-Quasano APS with the support of local municipal and regional institutions.

A treasure of the Bari Murgia

The Toritto almond, particularly the prized Filippo Cea variety along with the Antonio Devito, is famous for its seed quality, sweetness, and excellence in pastry making. Cultivated for generations on the Murgia plateaus, it represents an agricultural and cultural heritage that the festival aims to promote by bringing visitors directly into the almond groves.

How the festival works

The event is designed as a discovery path spread over several days between late August and September. Activities are divided into two distinct moments:

  • Mornings in the almond groves: guided tours in the fields up to the mother tree of the Filippo Cea Almond, with demonstrations of harvesting, shelling, and natural drying, followed by the Aperimandorla, an aperitif featuring local products.
  • Pastry evenings: taste workshops in local pastry shops, where you can learn to prepare pasta reale and other almond-based sweets, with walks through the historic center starting from Piazza Aldo Moro.

Tradition, nature, and community

The festival is not just a simple fair, but an immersion into the rural culture of the Murgia: from learning processing techniques to passing down confectionery knowledge, every stage brings producers, pastry chefs, and visitors into dialogue. Participation in activities is free, with mandatory booking, and actively involves the Toritto community in promoting their territory.

Toritto and the Alta Murgia

Located in the Bari hinterland, Toritto is a village that lives in close connection with the Alta Murgia landscape, characterized by almond groves, dry-stone walls, and ancient olive trees. The Almond Festival has become one of the best opportunities to discover this authentic corner of Puglia, far from the most beaten tourist paths, and to savor a product that defines the territory.

Almond Festival — edition 2026

The dates for the 2026 edition of the Toritto Almond Festival have not yet been announced. In previous years, the event has taken place between late August and September, featuring guided tours of almond groves, harvesting demonstrations, and pastry workshops dedicated to the Slow Food Presidium almond.

The official calendar for the 2026 edition of the Toritto Almond Festival has not yet been published by the Pro Loco Toritto-Quasano APS. Based on past editions, the event is expected to return between late August and September, coinciding with the almond harvest on the Alta Murgia plateaus. The detailed program, including guided tours, Aperimandorla, and pasta reale workshops, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
