About Stuffed Rabbit Festival

The Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival is the end-of-summer gastronomic highlight in Casamassima, the famous "Blue Town" in the province of Bari. Every September, Piazza Aldo Moro comes alive with Pro Loco stalls dedicated to three local culinary traditions: stuffed rabbit ('u chenigghie chiine), potato focaccia, and spumone. Enjoy three days of home-style cooking, live music, guided tours of the ancient village, and entertainment for all ages, all in a warm embrace of flavors and community in the heart of Puglia.

A festival dedicated to the flavors of Casamassima

The Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival is the food and wine event that transforms Piazza Aldo Moro in Casamassima, Bari province, into a vibrant hub of celebration and sharing every September. Created to celebrate local popular cuisine, the festival is organized by Pro Loco Casamassima APS with the support of the Municipality of Casamassima and the Puglia Region, and in just a few years, it has become one of the most anticipated end-of-summer events in the Bari hinterland.

The three stars of the table

At the heart of the festival are three specialties linked to the town's gastronomic memory, served at the stalls set up in the square:

  • Stuffed rabbit, known in dialect as 'u chenigghie chiine, the signature dish of Casamassima home cooking;
  • Potato focaccia, soft and fragrant, prepared according to the traditional recipe;
  • Spumone, the typical gelato dessert of Casamassima, which completes the festival's culinary journey.

These products are historically linked to the Feast of the Patron Saint, San Rocco, celebrated in Casamassima since 1886: these are Sunday and special-occasion dishes that the festival brings back to the center of community life as a heritage to be passed down from generation to generation.

The Blue Town

The event is also a perfect opportunity to discover Casamassima, known as the "Blue Town" due to the characteristic blue lime wash that covers the walls of the old town's houses. During the festival, guided tours are scheduled through the alleys of the historic center, taking visitors and curious travelers on a journey to discover one of the most charming corners of the Bari area.

Music, entertainment, and community

Alongside the gastronomy, the festival offers a rich program of live music, DJ sets, pizzica, and concerts that enliven the evenings in the square, along with craft areas, photo exhibitions, shows, and activities dedicated to children. It is a program designed for all ages, blending culinary tradition with popular festivities.

A true Puglian event

The Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival is a classic example of Puglian festivals, where food becomes a narrative of identity. For the Municipality of Casamassima and the entire metropolitan area of Bari, it represents a moment of tourism promotion and rediscovery of roots, capable of drawing residents and visitors into the warm atmosphere of September evenings.

Stuffed Rabbit Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival in Casamassima has not yet been officially announced. Following the tradition of previous years, the Pro Loco event is expected to take place in September in Piazza Aldo Moro, featuring stalls dedicated to stuffed rabbit, potato focaccia, and spumone. Dates and the program will be published by the organizers during the summer months.

At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition of the Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival have not yet been communicated by Pro Loco Casamassima. Over the years, the festival has taken place in September in Piazza Aldo Moro, Casamassima (BA): it is therefore reasonable to expect an event in the same period for 2026, with the usual program of traditional gastronomy, live music, and guided tours in the Blue Town. This page will be updated as soon as the organizers announce the official dates and the full program.
