In Cima Rest, the Tombea cheese, symbol of Valvestino
The Tombea Cheese Festival celebrates one of the rarest and most precious products of the Brescia mountains: Tombea, a typical alpine cheese from Magasa, a small village in Valvestino. It is a hard cheese of exceptional quality, produced exclusively with milk from cows raised in the area, recognized as a Slow Food Presidium and a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of Lombardy.
The festival takes place in Cima Rest, a rural location in the hamlet of Magasa, famous for its picturesque straw-roofed hay barns, a rare example of alpine rural architecture. Here, amidst the high-altitude meadows of the Municipality of Valvestino and a short distance from Lake Garda, the festival brings visitors and hikers to discover an authentic corner of the province of Brescia.
Reaching its 45th edition in 2026, the festival has been held every year on the second Sunday of September since 1979. It has become the event that best tells the identity of Valvestino: the link between alpine pastures, the work of the cheesemakers, and a cheese that was at risk of disappearing and that the community continues to preserve.
The day offers stalls of typical products and the sale of Tombea cheese, with spit-roasted meat and polenta cùsa for lunch (by reservation). There are also entertainment moments related to mountain traditions. An opportunity to taste a product found nowhere else and to experience Valvestino in its most genuine form.
In 2026, the Tombea Cheese Festival celebrates its 45th edition, confirming the regular appointment on the second Sunday of September in Cima Rest.
