Homemade bread and mortadella in the Seta district of Mesagne
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The 'Ti lu pani fattu a casa cu la murtatella' Festival is one of the most cherished summer traditions in Mesagne. The name, in the local Salento dialect, translates simply to «homemade bread with mortadella» and perfectly captures the soul of the event: authentic products, traditional flavors, and a genuine desire to share a meal together. The festival takes place in Mesagne, a charming town in the province of Brindisi, Puglia, specifically in the Seta district, right in front of the San Pio da Pietrelcina Parish.
The undisputed star of the show is the homemade bread, kneaded and baked according to tradition, then filled with classic mortadella. This humble yet delicious pairing is deeply rooted in Salento's peasant cuisine, turning a simple sandwich into a communal ritual. Every year, the scent of fresh bread draws locals and visitors from neighboring towns alike to the food stalls.
The evening is about more than just food. The celebration is accompanied by Salento folk music, with the infectious rhythms of pizzica inviting everyone to dance and turning the square into a vibrant open-air party. The warm, family-friendly atmosphere has always been the hallmark of an event designed to rediscover the simple pleasure of being together.
The festival is organized by the San Pio da Pietrelcina Parish, with the support of the Municipality of Mesagne. Each edition is made possible by around sixty volunteers from the parish community—adults and children alike—who handle everything from kneading and baking to serving and hosting. It is this spirit of participation that makes the event a true moment of connection for the Seta district and the entire city.
The event is part of MesagnEstate, a vibrant program of summer activities that brings Mesagne to life with concerts, food festivals, and cultural initiatives. It is the perfect excuse to explore the historic center of one of the most beautiful towns in the Brindisi province, combining great food with local discovery.
The 2026 edition of the 'Ti lu pani fattu a casa cu la murtatella' Festival does not yet have an official date. Based on previous years, the event is expected to return for an evening in August at Piazza Caduti di Via d'Amelio, in the Seta district of Mesagne, featuring the traditional homemade bread, mortadella, and Salento folk music. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
