The Ortucchio Threshing Re-enactment

The Threshing Re-enactment is one of the most authentic folk festivals in the town of Ortucchio, a lakeside village in the Marsica region of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. The event takes place in summer on the shores of the picturesque Ortucchio pond, near the old mill, one of the most charming spots in the town overlooking the ancient Fucino basin.

Organized by the Pro Loco Ortigia in collaboration with the Municipality of Ortucchio and the festival committee, the re-enactment was established in 2022 to preserve and share the memory of the Marsica rural civilization. It is an event designed for all generations, blending history, nature, and tradition in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Vintage Tractors and Traditional Threshing

The heart of the festival is the threshing demonstration, performed just as it was fifty years ago using antique tools and original machinery that tell the story of hard field labor. Along the pond's edge, an exhibition of vintage tractors and historic agricultural machinery is set up for visitors to admire up close. The event also features a spectacular tractor obstacle course with demonstration plowing, an adrenaline-filled highlight eagerly awaited by the public.

Flavors of the Marsica Tradition

The re-enactment is also a culinary celebration: you can enjoy traditional Abruzzese rural dishes, from street food to the unmissable fried frogs, a specialty tied to Ortucchio's lakeside heritage. The day concludes with live music and karaoke, enlivening the evening on the shores of the lake.

An Event for the Whole Community

With free admission, the Threshing Re-enactment is aimed at families, curious visitors, agricultural machinery enthusiasts, and anyone looking to rediscover the roots of rural Abruzzo. The event is part of the town's summer calendar, which offers festivals, concerts, and cultural appointments around the pond and the Piccolomini Castle every year.
