A weekend of nature, art, and music in the hills of Lake Orta
In Ameno, a small town in the province of Novara nestled in the hills overlooking Lake Orta, spring has its own special ritual: The Seasons of the Quadrifoglio – Spring. This is the first of four annual events designed to help you discover the four circular Quadrifoglio trails, a hiking network established in 2014 to traverse the entire territory and connect it to neighboring villages. Four seasons, four routes: each with its own perfect moment to be experienced.
The festival is promoted by the Pro Loco of Ameno in collaboration with the Municipality, as part of a long-standing project dedicated to slow and responsible tourism. The idea is simple yet precious: to showcase the Cusio region not through the rush of 'hit-and-run' tourism, but by walking, listening, and pausing to admire a view or step inside an ancient church. It is an invitation to those who love nature and culture, and to families who want to offer their children an outdoor experience far from screens.
The heart of the spring weekend is the hike along the Blue Loop, which starts from Piazza Marconi and winds through woods and hamlets, accompanied by CAI guides. A highlight is the Convento del Monte Mesma, a 16th-century jewel nestled in a nature reserve, featuring its church, cloisters, and ancient library: a place of art, silence, and spirituality overlooking the lake. For families, there are interactive trails designed to help children discover forest biodiversity through play.
The festival concludes with a baroque music concert in the intimate Santuario della Madonna della Bocciola, located in the hamlet of Vacciago di Ameno: a finale that blends the region's architectural heritage with great music in a suggestive, intimate atmosphere. It is the perfect way to complete a weekend where walking, landscape, and culture intertwine, proving that even a small Piedmontese village knows how to share its story with elegance and authenticity.
The Spring 2026 edition of The Seasons of the Quadrifoglio opened the festival's seasonal calendar in the hills of Lake Orta, during a weekend shared with the 'Letture Amene' Festival.
Nature took center stage with the hike along the Blue Loop, departing from Piazza Marconi at 9:00 AM, accompanied by guides and the CAI through the woods and hamlets of the Ameno territory.
Sunday was dedicated to a visit to the Convento del Monte Mesma, a 16th-century jewel of art and spirituality nestled in a nature reserve, with its church, cloisters, and ancient library.
Ameno is located in the hills of Lake Orta, in the province of Novara. By car, take the A26 motorway (Borgomanero exit) and continue towards the Cusio area. The nearest train station is Gozzano, on the Novara–Domodossola line, from where you can continue by car or local transport.
Admission to all events is free; booking is recommended for hikes and guided activities. For bookings and information: [email protected], Pro Loco di Ameno (tel. +39 0322 998103).
For hikes, we recommend wearing trekking shoes, dressing in layers, and bringing water. The meeting point is generally Piazza Marconi, in the center of Ameno.
