The summer concert series held in the churches and hamlets of Ghiffa, on Lake Maggiore
Ghiffa in Musica is the summer concert series of the Municipality of Ghiffa, a small village overlooking the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in Piedmont. The event transforms the local churches and hamlets into scattered stages, offering residents and tourists a series of musical events during the most beautiful months of the year.
Since 2022, the series has been curated by the San Leonardo Cultural Association of Pallanza, which accepted the Ghiffa municipal administration's proposal to take on the role of organizer and artistic director of the season. Since then, the programming has sought to dedicate special attention to young musicians, whether from conservatories or already established in the concert scene, alternating with local choirs and ensembles.
The season typically consists of a series of concerts spread between late spring and summer, with a repertoire ranging from classical and sacred music to modern works. The concerts are held in some of the most evocative places in the village, including the church of S. Maria Assunta in Susello and the church of San Maurizio.
Ghiffa is famous for its Sacro Monte della SS. Trinitร , a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for the lakeside landscape that frames the village. Attending a Ghiffa in Musica concert means combining listening with a visit to one of the most fascinating natural and architectural settings of the Upper Verbano. The intimate scale of the series, hosted in historic churches and spaces, provides a cozy atmosphere with excellent acoustics.
Ghiffa in Musica is a highly anticipated event in the Verbano summer cultural season: an opportunity to discover live music in an authentic setting, far from crowded major events, while enhancing the artistic and landscape heritage of the Municipality of Ghiffa and the entire Piedmontese lake region.
The 2026 edition of the series kicked off on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM in the church of S. Maria Assunta in Susello, with a performance of the Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The protagonists of the inaugural concert were the "La Piana" Women's Choir of Verbania and the Ensemble Amaranto, under the direction of Maestro Tommaso Perissinotto.
As per tradition, the season continues in the following months with a series of concerts dedicated to classical, sacred, and modern music, hosted in the churches and hamlets of the Municipality of Ghiffa. The complete calendar is published by the San Leonardo Cultural Association.
Further summer events of the series are announced by the San Leonardo Cultural Association on their official channels.
Ghiffa is located on the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore, along the Sempione state road (SS33), between Verbania and Cannobio. By car, it can be reached from the A26 motorway (Verbania exit), then continuing north along the lake. By train, the reference station is Verbania-Pallanza, from where you can continue by bus or taxi. The nearest airport is Milan Malpensa (about an hour's drive).
The concerts in the series are generally free to attend or by voluntary donation. For dates, locations, and any ticket information, it is recommended to consult the San Leonardo Cultural Association website and the official Ghiffa in Musica Facebook page.
Concerts are often held in the village churches and hamlets: it is advisable to check the exact location of each event and arrive a little early, given the intimate size of the venues.
