A Band and Young Students' Evening in Santa Sofia

"Il paese degli amori" is the musical evening that the "C. Roveroni" Band dedicates to Santa Sofia, a municipality in the upper Bidente valley in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in the heart of the Romagna Apennines of Emilia-Romagna. The event takes place at the Parco della Resistenza, a green lung in the center of the town, and offers a free-admission program that combines the band's repertoire with the enthusiasm of the younger generation.

The Roveroni Band, a History of Almost Two Centuries

The protagonist of the evening is one of Italy's longest-standing bands: the Santa Sofia Band was founded in 1844 on the initiative of some music enthusiasts. Throughout the 19th century, the band gained recognition far beyond local borders — it was invited to Ravenna in 1888 for a royal visit — and later took the name of maestro Cesare Roveroni, under whose direction it won first prize at the Regional Band Competition in Modena in 1929. Since 1985, the ensemble has been led by maestro Massimo Bertaccini, who has fostered its revival by closely linking its concert activities with its educational mission.

When Tradition Passes the Baton

The heart of the event is precisely this dialogue between generations. The evening opens with a performance by the "C. Roveroni" Band and continues with a concert by the groups from the "C. Roveroni" Music School, from which most of the band members themselves come: a continuous generational turnover that keeps alive a musical tradition rooted in the community of Santa Sofia.

An Event within a Weekend of Festivities

"Il paese degli amori" is part of a weekend of events that enlivens the Bidente valley: on the same weekend, in the nearby hamlet of Corniolo, the "Festa Selvaggia" takes place, a gastronomic event dedicated to local game. An opportunity to discover Santa Sofia, its traditions, and its Apennine hinterland, on the edge of the Casentinesi Forests National Park.
